Now that I can afford it I'm on the market for a digital SLR. I currently have a canon 35mm rebel and love it. I also have a canon PowerShot A95 which is break for quick trips but its time to upgrade.

I know Kathleen just got a new camera so I'm now excited to get one too. I have about 1500-2000 to spend so any tips or advice you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Have you found something you like yet?
I wanted the D80 but didn't want to spend the extra few hundred dollars since I am a beginner.

so far i have been looking at the canon EOS rebel XTi and the Nikon D80. I want to go down to a "real" camera shop so i can hold one in my hand and ask questions but I haven't found one yet. Kathleen, where did you ultimately end up buying your camera from?

I bought mine online. I needed it quick and found the best deal through this website. Willoughbys.com I think.

I thought you wanted to spend more money? Are you going to make up the difference in lenses?

here is my dilemma....I love Canon and its all i have ever owned. My canon rebel 35mm is what i use now and i have an extra lens for it that i paid a few hundred for. When I did my first round of comparison shopping the XTi offers alot for a great price and i can still use my extra lens. Now looking at the Nikon D80 it seems to be comparible side by side on many points with the canon but is getting far better reviews. If i went that route I know I would be happy with the choice but it also means i need to get a few extra lenses which I'm factoring into the whole budget. Over all its a very tough choice. I know what i'm used to so its hard to go into a new direction KWIM?

Oops i forgot to add that the XTi is not the only one I'm eyeballing from canon :) I'm also looking at the 30D which is why i want to scope out a "real" camera shop so i can ask my questions and see the camera's first hand.

i went out to buy ink today and walked over to the camera section at Best Buy. I hate to say it but the way the canon 30D feels in my hands makes me want to buy it now. Still doing research though. Its such a tough choice between the Nikon D80 and the Canon 30D
