View Full Version : Book Club?
Would anyone be interested in doing a book club? I like to read, but need the motivation to get a new book going sometimes. We can either do an online only book club where we vote on a book, give a few weeks to a month to read it, then discuss it here. Or we can actually meet in person when we are done with the book and talk about it then.
Anyone up for it?
Should we do online only or book club meetings?
Do you care what kinds of books we read (chic-lit, political, etc)?
Any suggestions for a first book?

I would be interested in a book club. Online, with the occassional in person meeting would be best for me but I am flexible too. I have to admit that I read purely for entertainment and I am not a deep thinker, so reading something like Thomas Hardy and having big philosophical discussions about his works will not be for me. :lol
As a suggestion for a first book, Maeve Binchy has a new book out... can't remember the title but she is always a good read.

I am for sure up for this. I will read anything. I always have a few books going at once. I have no problem starting books it is the finishing part I have a problem with.
I am a chic-lit person...I love Candace Bushnell. Jodi Piccoult is really good too and can be a bit deep. I loved "My Sister's Keeper", and saw she had a new book out at Costco. Still in hard cover though, so a bit more expensive.

me too!
Just finished Confessions of a Shopaholic and Bergdorf Blondes.
I would need it to be something I can get in audiobook form, b/c i listen to books while I proof from sessions. :)

i would be in. nothing too "heavy" or dividing though, so no politics for me and like Megan said anything that requires a lot of analyzing would probably be lost on me. I like true crime, suspense, chick-lit, biographies...

I am in a bookclub and LOVE it. I don't think I would read nearly as much if I weren't in this club especially since Madeline was born. We actually have our meeting tonight. We meet about once a month at each others houses and have no strict guidelines which I think has to do with our success. We have been getting together for over a year and a half now. My best friend from Concord drives to Santa Rosa to be apart of our group. We have six members and lost one because she was too busy and finding time to read was hard. "No pressure" is our motto, if you don't want to read then don't but still come to the meeting because sometimes we discuss the book for maybe 10 minutes. It has really turned into a women's group were we discuss just about anything, the book becomes the excuse to get together. Hence, I really recommend starting a club, I have really enjoyed it.
I'm up for it. I miss our old "book club"!! We have the same taste in books so you know what I like. I'm finishing up The 10th Circle by Jodi Piccoult now...not her best but still good. I'd probably lean more towards doing it online. It seems the older Faith gets the more she's got going on...which makes it hard to plan anything else.

I would be up for a book club! After not finding the time to read in a couple of years, I just plowed through all of Dan Brown's (DaVinci Code author) in like less than a month :bag I dunno what label I would put on the books I like, I don't like total fluff or the soft porn type harlequin romance stuff. Online or in person and make it a book discussion/playdate for the kids is fine by me :)

I'm always up for a good book. Is there a time limit on how fast we have to get through the book?

I'd love to do a book club. Meeting in person would probably be more motivating for me. Maybe we could do a combination of on-line and in-person?

I think I might like to do this too. I haven't gotten very far in The Fountainhead since Jackson was born so I could go for a new book. Meeting in person sounds like fun.

I'd be interested in a book club too. What a great idea!
Since having Hannah, I like "fun and easy to read" books like chick lit, best sellers etc.
