Tell me what you think.. Yes or no?
This would be the header for the site, but would also be able to be used on business cards, post it notes, etc.

The photo is from iStock (hence the watermark) but i wanted to be sure the design was even doable before I bought it ;)

It's very cute kinda even looks like Sonoma County almost. Would be closer if you could paste in little mustard flowers. LOL! But not very "logo" y for like tshirts and stuff? Very nice for biz cards etc. though!

It's cute but doesn't do a lot for me as a logo. If you were going in that direction, I'd rather see a picture of a bunch of the kids or maybe mom's from SCM. But, just my opinion!

True... it's a very pretty picture though! Just doesn't really go with the "moms" or "playdate" thing. I don't know what WOULD though...

:yeah BUT...
Maybe some moms talking while nusring their babies, and one or two mommies in that group looking over at older kids playing on a playground. It could be taken at a nice park or something.
I would totally pose for that picture...I don't mind nursing while being photographed.
lets just keep in mind that not all mom's nurse and SCM is not a primarily breastfeeding support group. it's a mothers group that encompases much more than nursing. ;) Sara and I have been looking at these logos for quite a while now and we've been very careful to not excluse anyone group of people... no pregnant women to not excluse adoptive mothers or parents with older kids, and the like.. so we want to continue that thought process as we go forward with choosing a logo/design ;)

Good Point Good Point....Umm well...how about a group of ethnically diverse women with some bottle fed and some breastfed and some older and younger children....something that would look more real.
I like the photo, but it looks surreal. Wouldn't we want something that people can relate too? That's maybe just me. But the pic doesn't really represent reality. I dont know. I'm just trying to be honest and throw out ideas for you. You can totalyl dissagree with me that wouldnt hurt my feelings at all.

do we as a whole encompass everyone yet (for a photo op should you decide to go that route)? A pic with older kids in the background a mom cradling a small baby and a toddler nearby (or in many moms cases up in her face along with the baby ;), multiple ethnicities of moms/kiddos...??? I've got the blondie blue eyed baby :)
Something about that lady's hair in the logo makes her look like a robot to me... the hair bugs me in the picture... :lol

:yeah Why does that lady "need a play date"? She looks so together and care free to me. If my life was that sunshine and roses I sure as heck wouldn't "need" a playdate :lol
lol, a robot? Like stepford wife? LMAO! that's too funny, and now everytime I see it i'll think that. Thanks, Lisa. :lol

I think like some others have recommended that it show a mural of women all variety of women, age, ethnically, and physically diverse.. Maybe you could randomly select or have a voting poll for a group photo in a local location.. Host a park event.. we can design a quilt/banner or something that can represent all of whom we are.. I unfortunately have ideas.. but not the most artistic person.. but I think the logo should represent the "community" of women.. one lady rolling in the fields does seem a bit surreal.. BTW.. if you go with the option of a multicultural crowd.. I've got the dark eyed..curlyheaded tot! LOL... Good Luck

i like it that it looks surreal it gives me something ot day dream about and i think when a new mom runs acorss it, it will make her stop and take a breath and relax.....does that make sense??
it will remind her that even though she may have a newborn that there will be moments like that again....

I think we need something that let's other Mom's out there feel that they are not the only one's going through what they are going through.
Something down to earth and not fake like hollywood.
It is nice to dream, but it would also be nice to know I'm not the only one who doesn't wear make-up or do my hair up all nice and pretty everyday of the week, even if it is just to play in the front yard. :myopinion

I actually like it. It makes me happy in a "wish I were there" kind of wsy. It would be harder to use on shirts, etc as a "logo" - but maybe the text wording could be used for that, without the background image, when it is not feasible to print it. Or - kind of like Becky's new site, keep the name text consistent and have a random 'version' load on each page header with a different "mom" scene, if people are worried about representing a variety of 'groups'. Does that make sense? Nice job, Jackie. I like it.

I just caught up on the other two pages.....just one more thought. I don't think it sets some 'unrealistic' goal for what perfection is. I don't want to log into a website to a graphic image of a day-to-day struggling mom. LOL Now...it's nice to READ here that everyone shares some of my trials - but seeing a harried, stressed, pudgy mom is sweats and no make-up (just like me) would just depress me. :giggle
I think it would be impossible to not exclude at least one person in something like this. Someone will always feel left out unless we want to take a picture of everyone on this board and I don't think that would even work since new people may feel left out for some other reason. I liked this pic since it was dreamy and reminded me of sonoma county without doing the obvious grapes thing. I agree, her hair is a bit bright, but I thought the total look was good. Not the best thing for t-shirts, but would look great on a business card. Back to the drawing board I guess :headscratch
yeah, and we have to realize that this isn't for the purpose of t-shirts, etc.
like I said before, this is for the SITE, the business cards, and post it notes, etc.
This could be used on our stationary (thank you cards, etc) and such.
Realistically, even if we kept the logo we have now, which is - truly - a logo.... would you really buy a tshirt with just that on it?
Maybe I'm totally off base here, but I wouldn't.
I'd buy something with a funny/catchy statement on it, and our website address below it.
rebekah: The "diff pic each page" idea is a good idea, but won't work with this software.
I also agree with Rebekah. I understand that people want to be able to relate to it, but do we really want a photo of some haggard, unkempt woman as our "face" to the group? I mean, I know sometimes I feel very rundown, but is "a rundown group of women" how we want to present ourselves to the community?
This group is great b/c it focuses on the really rotten crappy times, and us comisserating with each other - AND the really happy great times..
and would you rather see a mom and child playing, or a kid in timeout crying, while mom pours a martini? :lol

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the font and the feel!! I think it's both classic AND modern which are the two things that represent each and every one of us here. Perhaps a similar but different photo due to the "robot" issue LOL.

Definately the mom pouring the martini!! hahaa..
Seriously.. it looks "dreamy".. but I think I'd relate to something a little less "fieldsy" .. but then again.. I just moved here to the country.. hasn't quite set in for me.. I also agree at not putting the frumpy/dumpy mom pic.. but there are lots of radiant shots.. Jackie.. just in looking at the angles of the portraits you take.. I think something in perspective yet suggestive of the strength of a woman would be cool... It has hit the rambling hour.. I think I should stop while I'm ahead!

:lol No kidding, I see that kind of thing everyday in the mirror!
Aesthetically, I think it is lovely. Someone pointed out the tagline doesn't quite match the pic and I can see that point. In general I would love to focus on the positive aspect of motherhood and even if the pic (whatever pic that might be) looks a little surreal I think it conveys the feeling of joy that we feel inside even if we aren't all dolled up to hang out at the playground, ya know? Like when I laugh and play with my kids I *feel* all shiny and sparkly even if the camera doesn't see it ;) KWIM??

I don't hate the logo (though like I said that hair, is blaringly unhuman looking to me :)) and I would be happy with something similar (no crazy hair, and I supposed I'd get over the hair as it is) it just don't go with the motto particularly. We all need down time/a place to relax/to unwind etc. yes but the meadow scene doesn't resonate "play date" to me.

Yeah - THAT's what I was trying to say. It's a "wish I were there" kind of thing. I don't really get the dreamy thing...to me is just looks like a simple, "enjoying your child" kind of feeling, and I think the tag line works well.
Jackie, I missed that this wasn't a new "everywhere" logo, hence my tshirt comment. It would be pretty on postits or stationary, etc. I think it looks good.

Strength is something we all have in common, right?
Since it seems from all the posts and things, it is us women/mom's that seem to do everything! Laundry, clean, take care of the kids, etc...
And we all what the same things for our children, to grow up and be happy, strong, individual, etc...

I like the photo a lot, but perhaps it is because I am particularly fond of red heads, lol. I also agree that it does not fit the tagline. I think it may not fit our group either, we all seem so busy, most of us would not have the time to romp in field with our kids.
I am surprised you did not create a photo on your own Jackie.
How about a photo taken at a park, of members having a playdate. You could have a variety of skinny, attractive, members there with their kids. Well, that excludes me, lol!
Either way whatever you decide works, the photo is nice.
I am surprised you did not create a photo on your own Jackie.
between moderating SCM, organizing our fundraiser, trying to wrangle in more advertisers, being booked for photo sessions till May 5, finishing the contest my business was hosting, taking a trip to seattle and the like, I hardly have time to take photos for this at the moment ;)

I think it's fine (the first one). I mean I don't look like the Dorito's Girl (AKA Ali Landry) either... but I still eat their chips...
I like the first one, but I agree with everyone else... The tagline doesn't fit. If we're going to say "every mom needs a playdate", then, IMHO, we a picture with more than 1 mom... :D

04-15-2007, 01:54 PM
see, when I hear the line "everyone needs a playdate" then I picture a harried looking mom, with a babe on her hip, jeans and a t-shirt maybe half tucked in, her hair a little mussed with a toddler and older kid(s) in the background running amuck.... then I see her with a huge smile (looking harried, still) looking at a calander with the date circled and a note on it "SCM playdate: 11am!" ..... but then, that's just me.... I tend to have a vivid imagination...LOL

Thats funny! I like the logo we already have. The new one is nice, but something more compact would be better for products (magnets, notepads, shirts, etc.)
The tagline "because we all need a playdate" could be changed every so often to bring attention to different aspects of the organization, i.e. "moms supporting moms", "the ultimate chat group", etc.
Since the main component of this organization is the message board, I think that should be reflected somehow.
