We're officially signed up for the Relay for Life in Windsor!
For anyone who hasn't attended a RFL event, they are SO MUCH FUN.
Music, food, basically like a huge party for a great cause!
I did one back before I met JR when I worked for a gym and it was a BLAST. The goal is to keep atleast one person on the track (it's at a high school) for the entire day and night. We decided to sign up for the one in Windsor for a few reasons:
1.) It's sooner than the Santa Rosa (September) one which will increase our chances of keeping our fundraising going strong until then!
2.) since it's overnight, I thought some of our mama's with babes would like to do the overnight portion but may not want to if it's too cold! Hopefully in July it'll be toasty warm!
3.) Rohnert Park's RFL is in early June and I thought that was too soon for us to do any REAL fundraising

Our goals are:
15 members (so everyone SIGN UP! It's going to be a BLAST, I guarantee it)
and $3,000 (so donate, ask family and friends to donate, post it anywhere you can think of. Ask businesses you frequent, if you own a business, consider making a charitable donation to our team. It would be a GREAT help in reaching our goal!)

Here is the team site

and here is my site if you want to check that out as well!

Salina *loves* RFL! Brian was team leader for his company team for 2 or 3 years in a row so they would both be there for the entire 24 hours and pitched a tent and everything. Salina still has the luminara bags she made for people we've known with cancer. I signed us up, she will be very excited, it makes her feel like she is making a difference which is hard to feel when you are a kid.

AWESOME! I'm so glad Salina will be participating! If she wants to help with anything, let me know! I'd love to have her help out!

Or I should say whatever you need me to do.

Oh sure, you just let me know and she would pretty much be willing to do anything :) She had considered getting together her own team of peers a year or so ago but I think she found out minors can't or something so she was pretty bummed. It was kind of her and Brian's "thing" so I will have to ask her what they did for fund raising and whatnot. I know one thing they did was have the company donate hot dogs and sodas and then they cooked them up to sell to the other teams and they just gave all the money to RFL.

OK so I may be gone the weekend of the actual event, but I would love to help out anyway I can up until then. I may even end up being around. Can I still be involved in fundraisers and stuff.

LMS

:bump
bumping this thread up.
we aren't even halfway to our membership goal, so join ladies!
Even if you can only raise $50-100 it's still a huge help!!!
We hope you'll join us!

And just so everyone knows, anyone who raises over $100 gets a free shirt from Relay at the event. And then we will have matching team shirts for the walk itself.

ok - I am in. I am confused though, maybe you can help me?!? So is it that the people that sign up are doing the walking? and raising the money?? How does that work. I know you have a link to the website....but I couldn't tell. (or I didn't read the right area).

if you're a member of the team, you'll raise money and come to the event to walk, respresent the group.

I signed up too. I will work on raising money and anything else that is needed, but probably will be out of town for the event.

LMS

that's okay :)
I just need to be sure that a majority of the team members will be in town for the event to participate in the actual walk.

I happen to have a tiara that says "birthday girl" or something to that effect. It's not a real tiara, but it works. :) I'll have to see if I can find it. :D

HAHA You guys are funny. I was JOKING! I'm pretty sure I'd be too embarassed to actually *wear* a tiara on the track (or a banner for that matter!)

ok now that i know we should be in town for this event i know i can get involved. couple questions though....how much money does a team member have to raise (any min), what do we do with our kids (can they walk with us) and until when can we collect donations?

LMS
04-28-2007, 03:57 PM
You can collect donations up until the event date.
You MUST be active in some part of the fundraising.. ie: handing out flyers, emailing contributors, helping us ocme up with fundraising ideas, etc.
There is no minimum but I'm strongly encouraging everyone to raise atleast $100.
Your kids are your responsibility...they can walk, stay home, or hang out as long as you are watching over them. The group isn't responsible for any kids that come.
We have I believe 2 members who can't attend the event but want to raise so at this point I'm asking that only members who are able to attend and walk at the event sign up.
Every member is responsible for purchasing their team shirt (as cheap as $10 depending on what style you go for) as everyone needs to be in coordinating shirts.
IF we can reach our $3,000.00 goal, SCM will pay for 50% of each members tshirt.
You must sign up on the team site to take online donations (you can sign up right through the team site)

I think that's all the pertinent information....

oh! and the reason I recommend raising atleast $100 is because once you hit $100, you get a free Relay for Life shirt at theevent (this is NOT the same as the SCM team shirt)

LMS
04-28-2007, 03:58 PM
oh, and the even tis overnight, so we WILL need a few people who are willing to walk at night. I'll be there at night for sure, so anyone else who is able to come with will be totally welcome.
SOMEONE from the team must be on the track AT ALL TIMES

If you choose to have your kids participate in the walk, we ask that you get them a SCM team shirt for the event so people know which team they are with.

I just joined up and sent out a huge email looking for donations. This sounds like such a great activity. I would like to help as much as possible. I'm also cool with walking overnight. I can come down and support/help both days with kids--or at least as much as I can. Have you guys started on the organization-end yet?
