View Full Version : Organic? Luckylove 05-07-2007, 08:42 PM Do you buy oranic? What percentage of your food do you buy organic? (not just veggies but everything) Lynette 05-07-2007, 08:54 PM I know that some products that organic is more important (for lack of a better term) than in others and quite honestly, I can never remember which ones those are so I guess we are about 50%. Like bananas aren't supposed to be as big a deal as say strawberries because of the peel, etc. karen-clark 05-07-2007, 08:56 PM I know I should buy more organic but the cost is so much more! I wish there wasn't such a difference. colleen&Kail 05-07-2007, 09:17 PM i buy kails food organic, but i should start buying all of it organic. meeg124 05-07-2007, 09:26 PM I tried to buy all organic produce while I was pregnant and had Caden. I'm too used to the taste of pesticides though, so all the veggies tasted weird to me :lol Fruit is okay tasting to me when it's organic though. I have gotten much more lax about organic produce and haven't bought it recently. I am kind of getting interested in the idea of buying green, sustainable products and the train of thought that you don't buy anything grown outside of a certain distance from you. However, even if I could put the effort into it, my rightest of the right wing husband would probably not buy into it. I kind of got off topic here but my inner hippy came out :lol Theresa 05-07-2007, 09:46 PM I'm about 75-100%. I practically live at TJ's and they make buying organic so easy as well as the Safeway brand. When they have sales I stock up. I've found that it's not that much more money though. Also with Safeway's brand doesn't seem that much more expensive to me. I'm also in love with all of the farmers markets. I really like to buy local, but often that extra trip makes things so much harder. JuliaSannar 05-07-2007, 10:32 PM I am right there with you Theresa! I buy from TJ's, O (safeway organic), and farmers market (or olivers organic produce). I would say 75-100% for me. My3sonsplus1 05-07-2007, 10:40 PM I do a lot of shopping at TJ's and buy lots of whole and natural foods but not so much organic. bananas are 19cents non organic and 29organic and my kids easily eat 2 a day by 9 am if i am not watching like a hawk. I buy organic bananas for E though. Apples I usually get organic and lettuces. Sometimes I do organic PB but we get WIC and you can't get organic with that so the choice is free non organic or what like $5 a jar for organic in the regular groc store? My kids go through phases of lots of pb. But like with grains like I said we shop at TJ's and if the item happens to be organic that is just one more positive thing but some times it is just "natural" no artifical color, flavor, preservatives, hormones, etc. usually high in fiber relatively low in sugar sodium... so I said 25% organic it might be more though, I am not sure since bananas are a huge part of our diet :lol. My3sonsplus1 05-07-2007, 10:43 PM what is on your shopping list at Tj's? THey don;t sell much organic non produce do they? Well I guess so. I get the organic ww pasta (or the tortelini which is not organic) I don;t like the taste of the organic breads.. we get WIC cereal so all the organic cereals are out. I just can't see how you acheive 75% at TJ's :) Theresa 05-07-2007, 11:19 PM I will think more of my list when I go there tomorrow--but some quick things are milk, chicken, produce, pb, pasta/sauce, beans, flour/sugar, eggs. I tend to buy more dry goods at Safeway. justamom 05-08-2007, 12:55 AM I started out with good intentions of buying mosty organic. I have been slipping for the past 6-9 months :bag. Hopefully we can get back to it. jellybeanmichelle 05-08-2007, 06:18 PM There are something I do around the house that are "green", so maybe that can make-up for the rest of the 75% that I don't buy organic. I hope to buy organic or local once farmers market gets here. |
