Anyone have a magical way of getting splinters out of a two year old's foot who screams and thrashes like she is fighting for her life? I had Salina hold her while I poked around but between her flailing and us holding onto her I am sure it doesn't feel good and isn't safe if I have to get out the needle. She has three in one heel, one of which is big but only one is red and she is just today saying her foot is ouchie when she is running around barefoot.

Ideas?

We went through this about a month ago and no luck at all. We tried and tried it was impossible. We finally gave up and just watched it. It did come out on it's own.

do you have any bananas in the house? You are supposed to be able to tape/bandaid a peel on the splinter and after a while it will draw it out. You can see if she will find it novel to wear a tiny banana peel bit to bed.

oh scotch (or is it duct, duct is supposed to work on anything LOL) tape is also supposed to work if it still has a bit sticking out.

tweezers always work for us, a good pair not the cheapo ones

take a credit card and use it to push down towards the spliter (push from where the tip is, to the end that is sticking out) and it'll slide it right out.

Its funny but I was just reading this site about alternative methods for all sorts of things and it was saying the inside skin of an egg is supposed to cure all sorts of things including splinters which is one I had never heard before! I might try putting something on when she falls asleep. If I even try to restrain her at to even look at she screams but she did the same thing for medicine before too. Sigh...

That's an idea, I haven't tried that one before!

What about soaking the foot, to the point it turns into a prune?

I don't want to scare you, but my Mom got a bad splinter to the point the doctor had to surgically remove it and she couldn't wear a shoe for awhile.

We tried putting her in a hot bath tonight which softened the skin but she wouldn't stay in long enough to get pruney.

When Lucca was really little(just walking) she got a ton of splinters from my grandma's deck and I was freaking out. I called the advice nurse and they said not to soak wood splinters cause they will swell and it will be even harder to get out.

I'd just wait til she's asleep and attack it then... I use tweezers or my fingernails to pinch them out, but matt likes to use a razorblade...

I have not heard about the banana peel--will try that next time. I have tried the credit card and it did work. Thrashing toddlers is no fun at any time. I hope you get them out.

Take her to the beach. I know sounds funny.
My daughter wont let us take splinters out either or cut hanging nails off either (one tore 3/4 off last week). After a trip to the beach, playing in the sand barefoot, the splinters disappear. Last trip took care of the torn nail too.
