Made you look huh?? Well my question is how many of you are trail mix eaters. I keep hearing how it's good for protein energy (nuts, dried fruits, sugar bits, etc).. so today I got a bag of mix from TJs (in SR) that was sweet, salty, and tart.. and it was really good. Seemed to taste too good..

So I could go websearching.. but I'm trying to cut back on empty carb and high sugar snacks (I have a chocolate weakness and a cheez-itz weakness).. I'm not going to shed the 10 lbs I'd like to loose eating those things..

Thoughts?

my favorite easy mix is to buy a container of cashew and a bag of dried cherries and mix them together. Yummy :)

It depends which ones you get. I have had the sweet & salty ones from TJ's it is really good. I opt for the antioxidant mix or the almonds, cashews, and dried cranberries. I stay away from the ones with chocolate, m&m's and stick with nuts and dried fruits.

I am going to make that a goal (to cut out the little teardrop chocolates.. it's HARD tho'!).. Do you know anything about the fat content.. I believe its "good fat?" from the nuts and such? I saw that it was low carb, some protein, some fiber.. I did feel "satisfied" after only a couple of small handfuls.. So I'm assuming it's high energy/filling... I must sound like an idiot asking about nuts and berries, eh?

It seems like a "good" food to me if you don't end up getting too much sugary stuff in it (and some people are afraid of the fat in nuts) dried fruit can some times have a really high sugar content and it isn't the greatest for your teeth if it is super sticky. But I love trail mixes. I like peanuts, raisins, dried mangos, cherries and/or apricots, a few: natural "m &m's", sunflower seeds some times, almonds, pretzels are a decent addition as well.

That is exactly what it is the healthy fats found in some nuts almonds for example. The best life diet by Bob Greene(he is Oprah's trainer) has some great ideas in it conerning healthy snacks etc. If you are trying to lose weight maybe try that book. The diet isn't too restrictive it works in 3 4 week segments and structures your eating and takes our transfats, soda, white bread/pasta and a few other things.

in general yes they are the good fats. I have noticed though that a few of the TJ's mixes had additions that has hydrogenated oils in them (to coat the non nuts so they don't clump together)

I make my own. I get the nuts I like from TJ's and same with the dried fruit. I normally do put in some chocolate chips though. I like Almonds and walnuts with dried cherries and cranberries, and sometimes apples with shredded coconut and chocolate chips. :) YUMMY!

I love trail mix. I think anything in moderation is ok. Of course it's high calorie, but if you eat a serving (not 3 or 4) then even the one with chocolate is ok - just don't pick out the chocolate!!!:tongue

mmm.... I haven't had trail mix in a couple months! I used to get the giant bag from Costco, but I didn't really like the almonds and wanted more raisens. So I just made my own with peanuts, cashews, raisens, dried fruit, and chocolate chips. I think I'll do that again this week.
Oh! I'll also make a batch of granola. I have a great recipe from my MIL and it will go so good with some fresh fruit from the farmers market.
