I took Caden to see Dr. Oliver today and we had such a great experience!! Caden saw another dentist last fall and it did not go well at all, so I was rather anxious about this visit. When I called to schedule the appointment, I explained to the receptionist what my concerns were and she worked on getting Caden scheduled at a time when there weren't any other patients. The office really worked with us about not shining the light in Caden's face (as soon as the last guy shined the light in Caden's face, he was done!) or forcing Caden to lie on the exam bed. Dr. Oliver was just really patient and kind to Caden and I'm so proud of my little guy for doing such a great job. We have read Little Critter Goes to the Dentist about 500 times in the last month and we took the Little Critter book with us so Caden could show it to the dentist. So using that as kind of a social story was helpful too.
Anyway, if you're looking for a pediatric dentist I recommend Dr. Oliver. :D

Yay Caden!!! Isn't Dr. Oliver cool?! He is so into kids just having a good experience, bottom line. It is so great to find professionals who obviously enjoy and just get how their minds work!
And of course he is easy on the eyes... ;)
ooh, hes cute?
what's their number? :lol
My doctors have to smell good. LOL. MY optometrist back home always had the best smelling cologne on.. just enough. so when he's right up in your face, you get that little treat. :lol

Well, he is a *kids* dentist so I didn't close enough to get a whiff since I was afraid he wouldn't let me come back :lol

im glad you found a good dentist, i will keep him in mind when kail needs one in a few years! thanx
Jacob went there a little while back and we had a great experience too. Great Dr., highly recommended. I didn't get a whiff though ;)
lol, you guys think i'm weird, but think about it... would you ever go back to a dentist who leans over and smells like BO? probably not. If I have to be close enough to smell someone, they damn well better smell good :lol
Just wait, next time you go to the dr, you're gunna be thinkin "hmm, i wonder what he smells like?"

TJ just went a couple weeks ago and pitched a royal fit!! Wouldn't let anyone get near him and I had to hold him down just so the Dr. could look at his teeth real quick. He hates getting his teeth brushed or anything put in his mouth and I had let it go too long since the last visit I think. But instead of forcing him to get the whole exam and cleaning etc. he made an appt for a couple months from now to start some warm-up appts, and gave me some brush-on fluoride to use in the trouble spots he could see. I have the utmost confidence in Dr. Oliver, he is awesome! TJ has been treated there for cavities twice now, once where they put him out with a shot of ketamine (ugly zombie state - blech - but he had no clue what happened to him) and once under happy gas. They were great experiences considering.

While I was blowing on Ava's hot pea's tonight I remembered something he told me in our childbirth class. He said the #1 thing he see's more than anything else is pizza burns. I was shocked!

what do pizza burns have to do with the dentist?

Burning the roof of their mouths, tongue. That's what he said...

gotcha! I though perhaps lips... but then I didn't think there was much you could do for that really except be SOL anyway ;) I burn my tongue "all the time" :lol. I don't think it would cross my mind to take my kid to the dentist for that unless they like gargled boiling water or something obviously harm/painful that seemed like "extensive damage" ykwim. If a child can pick up the pizza/mug it doesn't seem like they could do enough damage in the time it takes to spit the item back out/swallow it... And like I said I didn't think there is much that could be done outside of oral rinses and maybe anbasol/orajel for the pain topically and motrin orally, interesting factoid :)

okay I am really dense and just got the connection of hot peas making you think of hot pizza. Silly me went with the blowing reminded you of childbirth classes reminded you of Dr Oliver reminded you of that "off hand" (that really wasn't in reality) remark :lol

LOL, It is kind of strange that you would bring your kid to the dentist for that but I swear that's what he said!
Blowing = childbirth classes :lol

The thing about pizza is that it can feel cool enough to pick up but the sauce under the cheese etc. can scald you!
I wonder if all those moms bringing their kids in for pizza burns were just looking for excuses to visit the guy. LOL
