I sooo wish I had a personal url other than an extension of karens site...
lisa, you can purchase one for $5 a year and just have it forwarded to that site, if you want. I can even show you how to do it :) Just let me know :)

I was thinking that might be an option... not sure how it would work as far as "logo" though. Would I be able to say use the company "logo" (as long as it was kosher with stf) and then my domain name that forwards under that so that my $ wasn't going to support STF in general?

No please don't, then google penalizes me for duplicate content! But you can make up your own page or blog that has other content and link to mine or the company site within it...

i am confused, so iamfeltqueen.com (just made that up not using that) that had a forward to funfelt would mess you up? I don't want to screw you up Karen :) This is why I asked you a million years ago if getting "my own website" was worth it at all... so I wouldn't have to piggy back/use/whatever the main site as a /xxx...
blech, ah well guess it wasn't meant to be.
wow, i never realized that google would penalize you for that. I have 2 domain s to my site and my 8 main searches for my site (based on what i'd guess clients would use) I rank in the top 3 in all of them.

You can do it with a 301 permanent redirect that isn't penalized as much but regular redirecting is bad. I am just finding out about all this stuff, well I have been in Cricket's SEO class for a year and finding out all kinds of stuff I am doing 'wrong' that has been keeping me from getting higher page rank. I am actually thinking about doing away with the consultant pages since the company is coming out with their own anyway, because I think they do more harm than good since the content on them is the same for everyone (give or take a few words). Google does not like duplicate content. I have read stories in that class of whole websites being taken off google for having the same content on more than one page (like write an article and post it or sell it to several webpages). There is more to it but unless you do a 301 permanent redirect you can get penalized, maybe not taken down but not get as high a PR as you could. Besides the state of my site is up in the air so I wouldn't want any consultants to permanently redirect to it. And I reserve the right to change my mind about my site as often as needed as I learn new info!! LOL
Lisa for you, it would be very easy to make up your own site with your own cheap domain somewhere and use one of the blog sites. Just write about anything and then link to the company or my site, the main thing is to have unique content. And like I've always said, relying on the internet for this business is about the worst thing you can do, people rarely get orders from online and the only reason I do is my site is 8 years old. It took me 2 years and hours a day promting it to get any business out of it. Our product just isn't very 'online friendly' so my answer is the same as it was a million years ago. :)
yeah, you can even do one of those "website tonight" things through like godaddy or something and have a basic page up within minutes.

I would not be planning on using/relying on the internet for buisness but in doing something like this, should I decide to, doing just my phone number or whatever would be an even less wise choice as as not online friendly the product is my name /phone and the abc logo are even less telling of anything ;) I want to do a simple website for such situations but I don't want to spend hundreds of hours on it OR have it look like my 5 yo threw it together either.

We should open a new thread about this or go private since we are way off topic LOL but doing a blog is easy and doesn't require hours and could be something easy to send people to, to keep in touch with specials or whatever, too. I use wordpress but it is a little more complicated for newbies but I believe you can get your own domain for blogger ones which are easier and they have templates so you don't have to design it or anything. You basically pick your colors and pics, put in some links, and write something once a week. You'd be welcome to use the pics on my site, I can explain how to do that if you do this. :) Anyway that is one way to get a web 'presence' without spending a lot of $. Basically just the domain name, because blogger is free. You could start without a domain and just do like feltqueen.blogspot.com LOL

I will check to see if my mom can do this. Her business is in Greenbrae though--would that be ok?
ifr she does it before the deadline, that's fine :)
