View Full Version : target or walmart? LMS 05-27-2007, 01:29 PM Which do you prefer? colleen&Kail 05-27-2007, 01:30 PM TARGET LMS 05-27-2007, 01:31 PM dang girl you are QUICK. i don't think the poll was even up yet. lol colleen&Kail 05-27-2007, 01:38 PM what can i say.....i am bored at work LOL barb 05-27-2007, 02:50 PM I prefer Target, but I will shop at Walmart if I have to. First choice is always Target tho. becky 05-27-2007, 04:16 PM Target but it also helps that it is just a walk away from my house. Kellie_MO5 05-27-2007, 05:11 PM I go to both, It really depends on what I'm in need of... If I'm looking for something cute for me or the kids, then target, If I'm looking for something inexpensive, then Walmart... I also get my contacts from Walmart Lorah 05-27-2007, 07:07 PM I go to Target. I don't like the cheap quality of the Walmart stuff, nor do I agree with the AWFUL practices walmart has; they treat their employees like crap too. LMS 05-27-2007, 07:30 PM I should note, I prefer Target, but I'm boycotting the SR Target's food court :lol Colleen and I went the other day and the guy was a MORON. Asked if Brendan wanted applesauce or fries with his chicken and i said fries. Took him 20 m to get my food for brendan even though he told us it would be 10m. Then never brought it to me, I had to go get it. Then gave it to me without fries and when i called him out on it, he was like "what?" So i reminded him that he asked me which i wanted and he said "oh yeah. can i just give him applesauce b/c i don't even know where the fries are" ughhhhhh in the end, he gave me nothing. Lorah 05-27-2007, 08:41 PM Did you pay for the fries though? That is totally lame!!! LMS 05-27-2007, 08:56 PM i paid for their kids meal thing, so technically yes, b/c it is working into the price, i'm sure. I think he was stoned. I put up a little fight but brendan was SOOO hungry and tired at that point that it wasn't worth it. and colleen has already told me she doesn't want to see anyone piss me off again, LOL Lorah 05-27-2007, 09:26 PM I would have totally complained!!! I probably would have requested my money back too. BUT I totally understand doing what is best for the little ones. If he was tired and hungry, then I can see how it would have been really difficult to do much more than you already had done. Sorry it was a sucky experience...I'll make a note of it to not ever go there (I probably never would have already anyway so thisis easy) :) Lynette 05-27-2007, 09:54 PM I hate Walmart. I swear they have one in Purgatory. I truly think it is a requirement that everyone who walks through the doors be completely unaware of their surroundings so the aisles will be full of people who can't make up their mind but need the whole aisle while they mull over the choise, their kids are ripping things off shelves and narrowly becoming shopping cart speed bumps, all while everyone is on their cell phone because apparently WalMart is the cool place to chitchat to your friends. TaivensMama 05-27-2007, 11:44 PM I cannot decide because I do like the cleanliness and variety at target and the more upscale items but I do enjoy the slightly lower prices and cheapo type things walmart offers and best of all fabric and crafty items at walmart! NO ONE has better everyday prices on fabric than walmart!! LMS 05-28-2007, 08:20 AM I hate Walmart. I swear they have one in Purgatory. I am SO FRUSTRATED by the time I get out of walmart for ALL of those reasons. I swear, when i'm shopping, NOTHING pisses me off more than when people just stop right in front of you to look around, talk to their friend, whatever. Aisles are for walkin, NOT for parkin, folks! Lynette 05-28-2007, 09:57 AM I swear, when i'm shopping, NOTHING pisses me off more than when people just stop right in front of you to look around, talk to their friend, whatever Or stick their heads up their @sses...I always ask Salina if she thinks it would be socially acceptable to just ram them with the cart, I mean that's the reason they are there, right? Truth be told, the only thing I get at Walmart is diapers because they are so much cheaper but I park on the side and make Salina go in and get them :bag Juls318 05-28-2007, 10:09 AM I go to Target. I don't like the cheap quality of the Walmart stuff, nor do I agree with the AWFUL practices walmart has; they treat their employees like crap too. Ditto! Plus, the times I have gone I felt like I needed a shower after I left. Lorah 05-28-2007, 10:29 AM Ditto! Plus, the times I have gone I felt like I needed a shower after I left. OMG I totally agree!!! I thought I was the only one! I went in there recently to look for something I couldn't find anyplace else, and left feeling really icky! Travis even said that Maverick was going to lose IQ points just being around all that filth and disorganization etc. Man, I had not been in one of those stores for years until a few weeks ago, and WOW have they gone down hill FAST!!!! It was disgusting in there!:( HeatherK 05-28-2007, 10:54 AM I go to Target. I don't like the cheap quality of the Walmart stuff, nor do I agree with the AWFUL practices walmart has; they treat their employees like crap too. :thumb Ditto what Lorah said. I love Target (pronounced French-Targeh Boutique). :) Mom of 2 05-28-2007, 11:16 AM I go to Target. The only time I go into Walmart is when I can't find something anywhere else and I know that they have it at Walmart. Walmart is just so dirty and the employees don't seem to know anything. Thye always seem to be smoking outside, or standing around the few times that I have had to go in there for something. Target is much better in my book. Kate Mom to Patty and Tyler justamom 05-30-2007, 03:31 AM I tend to gravitate toward Walmart more for the everyday items like hand soap, household cleaners, etc. that I don't buy at Costco, because they are less expensive. They also have a fabric/craft section and I am always up for a project. But for quality items I tend to gravitate toward Target! What does bug me the most is that the last couple of hours of business you have to find your way through mazes of pallets of product to get to where you are going. Not to mention kindly move aside to allow the employees to bring the paletts through. I also don't like how cluttered their main aisles are. Target does not have products down the middle of their main aisles and it is much easier to maneuver. I only recently started shopping at Target again, in the last 3 years. I was boycotting them for some time. When my oldest was a baby we went to the Target where we lived and bought a $200 entertainment center. I wrote a check, had great credit, and it was denied. The cashier showed me the 800 number printed on the back of the check. I ran to get cash to pay for the item so she would not have to void the transaction. I used the atm there in the store. She took the cash, and I thought she had handed me the check with my reciept. I put it in my checkbook. This was in December. In January, my account was closed to to an unpaid NSF of guess how much $200. I looked in my check book and there was no check. I fought with Target for 4 years over that check. They kept stating that I owed it, I kept stating that if they turned over the hard copy of the check they would see that it had been denied, and that I was not lying. It ruined my credit. She just pocketed the cash and overode the check denial. I just had such a miserable time with the way Target handled it. They acted as if I was in the wrong the entire time. Walmart is really bad to their employees, from what I understand, but there are not too many retail big box stores that are all that great to their employees. Such is the corporate monster. When it comes to clothes and such Target for sure, with the exception of the boys line. I found that I loved their clothes for toddler boys, but when my son grew into the big boy section I found the selection was lacking, as well as the sales. The boys section has the worst sales. Right now if you go to the Big girls section you will find a couple 50% off racks, possibly a 70% off rack and a couple 30% off racks. In the boys section you would be luck to find a 50% off rack and a 30% off rack. And they don't have dress clothes for big boys around easter time. I like Targets product more, but for the items that are universal, why pay more if you don't have to. Just avoid Walmart, on evenings and weekends if you don't want a crowd. BTW Walmart doing a huge remodel at the RP location. I was actually shocked at the look they are going for. I think the new optical department and the Electronics department really changed the look. barb 05-30-2007, 08:32 AM BTW Walmart doing a huge remodel at the RP location. I was actually shocked at the look they are going for. I think the new optical department and the Electronics department really changed the look. We went into the RP Walmart briefly this week. They're updating to look like all the other Walmart's. The Walmart in Napa is set up like that. :) I remember when Walmart was new to Rohnert Park and they were opened 24 hours. When I couldn't sleep I'd drive over to Walmart and walk around. It wasn't as messy or as unorganized as it is now. <sigh> Those were the days. As far as how they treat their employees, I have a girlfriend who has been with the Napa store for 9 years. Her youngest son has some health issues and WM has bent over backwards to make sure that they were taken care of. All I hear from her is the good things that the company has done for their family (and others). I haven't heard anything negative, from her, about how their employees are treated. Her store has been willing to change her schedule without any complaints when she needed it due to pregnancy and having a young one at home. They gave her benefits when she worked part time and needed them. I realize that one persons accounts don't discount the millions that are out there, but because they were good to my friend and her family when they needed it I will continue to shop there. I just don't like the mess or the "feel" in RP. LMS 05-30-2007, 09:47 AM <sigh>As far as how they treat their employees, I have a girlfriend who has been with the Napa store for 9 years. When i lived in PA they put in a Walmart in Corry, Pa and there was a woman who worked there and her son was driving his motorcycle and the PennDot had neglected to leave up signs saying a road had just been tarred and chipped. B/c of the sticky surface, his bike overturned and he was badly burned in the tar. Walmart did dozens of fundraisers for their family and ended up paying for his entire cosmetic surgery as well as setting him up with a college fund for when he was finally healed. That won my business. </sigh> colleen&Kail 05-30-2007, 10:14 AM wow! that is soo great of them to do that, it is nice that they cared enough to help out that family. they definelty can spare the money! LOL justamom 05-30-2007, 02:25 PM Good to know that Walmart has backed up their employees. I think alot of the bad press they get may be old news or perhaps the issues arised at the store level. I think Walmart provides a lot of jobs to the low income community, and the elderly that otherwise would not have as many opportunities for work. I know that Walmart tends to sell some product that is made in sweat shops, but so does the GAP. I think in general I like to shop with local family owned businesses whenever I can, and leave my everyday items on my list for the bulk discount places like Walmart or Target. meeg124 05-30-2007, 03:23 PM My mom worked at a Walmart for years. When she worked for them, they had great employee benefits and that is why she went to work for them. However, whenever there was a local family/employee that needed help, it wasn't Walmart that donated the money it was the employees doing fundraisers, etc. Walmart would match a percentage of what they raised. I think it depends a lot on the store manager on how that kind of stuff happens. Lynette 05-30-2007, 08:08 PM I just had such a miserable time with the way Target handled it. MJ2day 05-30-2007, 08:12 PM Target all the way:thumb Lynette 05-30-2007, 08:31 PM I think alot of the bad press they get may be old news or perhaps the issues arised at the store level. I think Walmart provides a lot of jobs to the low income community, and the elderly that otherwise would not have as many opportunities for work. Within the past couple of years there was that law on the ballot about forcing Walmar to provide healthcare coverage for their employee's because without it they were going to the emergency rooms for basic stuff like ear infections or the flu and the taxpayers were paying the bill even though if Walmart were a country it would have the 10th biggest economy in the world. They also go out of their way to have the lowest prices so they price out the mom and pop stores until they go out of business and can raise their prices. I do think the RP Walmart is the exception, it seems the ones across the country are like huge grocery store/discount store combos and sometimes are the only store to choose from in a given area? justamom 05-30-2007, 11:14 PM So what ended up happening Tina? Something like that would have made me nuts! Absolutely nothing happened! It just eventually dropped off my credit. The whole thing was very frustrating. |
