I see that quite a few people have lived in Chico... I'm just wondering how many. Did you like it there? Think that maybe someday you'll move back? Or maybe you want to move there at some point in the future?

View Full Version : Have you ever lived in Chico? meeg124 06-11-2007, 04:11 PM I see that quite a few people have lived in Chico... I'm just wondering how many. Did you like it there? Think that maybe someday you'll move back? Or maybe you want to move there at some point in the future? meeg124 06-11-2007, 04:14 PM I grew up mostly in Chico. Wasn't sorry to leave there and every once in awhile I think about moving back there. But that usually only lasts for about 2 seconds and I'm over it :lol becky 06-11-2007, 04:19 PM never even been there and had to look it up so i know where its at :lol My3sonsplus1 06-11-2007, 04:22 PM I lived there for about... 10 mo, shortly before I started my freshman year in college until June of the next year when I moved back to dh's hometown of Rohnert Park so that we could get merry-ed without long distance planning and because we could no longer afford to live there. The only job K could find while there was a seasonal job at H and R block. Once that was over he had to come back to RP and find a job here and move back in with his parents. I moved back a few months later, and lived at his parents for the summer of hell 1999 and we moved out in October I think it was to SR where we have been bouncing around trying to find our "home" since. I am sure some of the novelty was the whole 'first time out on my own' thing, that and I never did experience July in Chico heat I don't think. Lynette 06-11-2007, 05:39 PM I haven't lived there but my other mom lives up in Anderson 10miles south of Redding and damn it gets hot up there in the summer! Yikes! StacyK 06-11-2007, 05:41 PM I grew up 30 min north of Chico and moved there after I graduated high school. That's where i met my dh. Whenever we go to visit, it feels like going "home." I really miss it a lot and would love to move back someday...but I don't know if I could get used to the heat again. That's the one draw back for me. I went to visit this last weekend (for my 10 yr reunion) and I ended up with heat rash all over (yuck!) Besides Santa Rosa, it's the only place I could really see our family. meeg124 06-11-2007, 05:55 PM I grew up 30 min north of Chico and moved there after I graduated high school. If we were to ever bail out of Santa Rosa - it would be to Chico. We both love the heat, have friends and family up there, and it is very very affordable. It is also very outdoorsie (ha ha - I think I just made up a word). The only down side of living up there would be the "smallness" of it all. My3sonsplus1 06-11-2007, 06:44 PM I suppose it may be affordable if you have a easy transferable (w/o loosing $) job. Otherwise minimum wage just isn't gonna pay the bills. And even then you can't find 'em (at least you couldn't in 99) because all the college kids have 'em. Doesn't matter if rent is 650 (which isn't that cheap really) if you can't find a job. I (think I) loved Chico but DH was there for 9 mo and only had a job for like 3 or 4 of them. All he could find other than H & R Block (during tax season) was a Kirby Salesman JeriAnne 06-11-2007, 10:33 PM I live about an hour away from Chico in a small shithole town called Williams. It does get TERRIBLY hot here during the summers. StacyK 06-11-2007, 10:48 PM Did you grow up in Los Molinos? Yep....good 'ol Los Mo... You've been there? meeg124 06-11-2007, 11:46 PM Yep....good 'ol Los Mo... You've been there? That was the last place I lived, before I moved to Sonoma County :) erin anne 06-12-2007, 03:09 PM We lived in Chico for 3 years (2000-2003) for my DH (then boyfriend) to do his undergrad at Chico State....and I really didn't like it until the last year when i took a year of classes to prep for my teaching credential. When I became a student there, then I felt part of the community. I grew up in Petaluma so I liked the small town feel. I bet it has changd a lot. I remember we almost bought a 2-story by the mall for $161,000...wish we did! My DH still owns a four-plex there. Summers there are way to hot! jellybeanmichelle 06-12-2007, 10:59 PM I remember we almost bought a 2-story by the mall for $161,000...wish we did! Those homes were nice! I worked out there at United Healthcare from 2000 to summer 2001. The house ex-bf and I rented was a farm house on Normal St. Then we rented a 2 bedroom apartment with pool for $500 just off hwy 32. justamom 06-14-2007, 12:40 PM One of my cousins went to Chico State and then got married and they settled there. Her sister lives in Durham. I spent a summer there with my cousin when I was in 8th grade. She had just had her first baby boy then. I helped her out by getting up at 6 am with him changing him and giving him a bottle. Good times. Wow, now he is 20. Time flies when you are havin fun! justamom 06-14-2007, 12:42 PM Good to know Lynette. I was going to visit my cousin this summer, but she is 15 miles outside of Redding. I haven't lived there but my other mom lives up in Anderson 10miles south of Redding and damn it gets hot up there in the summer! Yikes! Lorah 06-20-2007, 08:15 PM I never lived there, and I'm not all that fond of it actually. I like hot, but not THAT hot in the summer. I know people who love it there. I guess there is a place for everyone huh. I just need to find mine now...:) |
