I had to take Caden to the urgent care clinic today at Kaiser and we saw a pediatrician I hadn't met before... Sarah Koch. I really liked the way she was just so caring with Caden. However, as much as I love a good bed side manner, it is more important to be "competent". Has anyone seen her? Have an opinion?
:thankyou

Caden has a horrible case of conjunctivitis! We called the advice nurse last night and got an rx for the eye drops and got those started but this morning when Caden got up, his whole face was swollen and red and he looks like he has two black eyes. The poor guy felt so crummy and was sooooooo tired last night, he had the melt down of all meltdowns as I was getting him ready for bed. He just cried and cried and produced about 10 pounds of eye boogies. Gross! I got him into bed and cuddled him and then started reading to him and he passed out before I was done with the 2nd book. I don't think he has ever done that before. So when he got up this morning and looked so terrible, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else going on and he does have a sinus infection from the cold he has had all week. That kid will NOT blow his nose and I know all that snot is just lurking up there. He is going to have a major sneeze and it will all come out at once. Double gross!

wow i wish i knew our doctor's first name but back when the girls doctor had left on maternity leave we had a temp doc whose last name was Koch. I wonder if they are the same doctor. We don't have Kaiser but she had told us she was just filling in until a permanent replacement could come in.

I am sorry about Caden and hope he gets better soon! I know how horrible that infection is in kids and adults.
There's a home remedy that I have used in the past for conjuntivitis that woks wonders and it's very easy to make. Grab 2 bags of Chamomile tea and boil them in a small pot with water. Let it cool down and apply hot compresses several times a day. You can use cotton balls on your child's eyes (make sure it is not that hot). That will relief him from the redness and clean the pus in his eyes. It is important that he doesn't touch or rub his eyes because it is highly contagious.
I hope this helps;)

I never had it as a kid, but when Alaina was a couple of months old I got it in one eye and it was pretty miserable. The chamomile tea bag helped but to me it was more something to ease the symptoms and irritation I think. I brought it up in conversation with Alaina's doctor and she said most of the time there is no need for meds, it resolves itself in 7 days which in my case was correct but Caden's sounds bad and more involved with the sinus infection so even I would go the med route. Breastmilk is also supposed to help because of its antibacterial properties and I was pretty desperate in the beginning but I think I already told that story :D

I'll have to remember the chamomile tea bags. Although I don't if Caden would let us put those on there or not. But it's worth a try. We had to switch to the eye ointment as putting the drops in his eyes is a pretty horrible experience. With the ointment, I can wait until he is asleep, peel down his eye lid and squirt it in there and he doesn't really wake up too much. He looks better today. Still a bit red and weepy but nothing like yesterday morning.

I imagine the ointment would be better but have you tried the drops when he is asleep? When J was needing the atropine drops that is what the doc suggested but J just woke up fighting it, but it sounds like Caden is a deeper sleeper than J because we wouldn't have been able to do ointment either.

I think we saw her when Madeline was first born and we had to go to the pedi's office quite a bit for jaundice issues. Its the same last name but I don't remember her first name. She was filling in at Pediatrics Assoc. I really liked her and felt she was competent and she did her job very well dealing with newborn and first time parents who were very tired and concerned.

Julie you and I are talking about the same doctor. I loved her. I wish she was still there. I think she just had a baby though. Well about 2 months ago. We were pregnant at the same time and just a few months difference.

This doc did have a baby in the last couple of months, so I bet she is the same one. I really liked her, so maybe we'll switch to her instead of Dr. Henderson.

She is wonderful Megan. If you do see her again please tell her I said hello. I was sad to see her go and I know you will just love her.

Megan - you liked her more than Dr. Henderson? hmmm. Henderson is Jennas ped., and I like her a lot, but I just think she is very new to the system. I tried to look up Koch on Kaisers website, but she is not listed yet. Perhaps she is to new?

she might be new or temp. She was over at Pediatric Assoc. only a few months ago to help out since our regular doctor left the group all together. It would be since though if she did find a permanent place because was such a wonderful doctor.

Dr. Henderson is okay. I don't dislike her but I don't love her either. I didn't choose a PCP for Caden and she was automatically asigned to him. Dr. Koch just came across as truly caring and concerned. I don't see Dr. Koch on a provider list in our office that is dated the first of June, so I'll have to do some research and see if I can find out if she is going to stay on staff.

Poor thing! I hope he feels better soon.
I have had pink eye twice in the last week and a half. I think one of my daycare kids has it. Mom has been telling me a fib, that the kid got hit in the eye with a ball that morning. I got rid of it on my days off, but when he came back so did the pink eye. No big deal for me, I just wish she would be honest with me.

I think you are right. I saw her out at lunch one day and she was pregnant. We were really hoping she would stay on at Pediatric Assoc.

Megan,
I'd be interested in what you find out. We have Henderson and aren't overly thrilled with her. She's "okay" if you KWIM...

even though I don't have kaiser I'm interested to find out if this doc it the same that julie and I are thinking about. We would have loved for her to stay at Ped Assoc but if we can't have her it would be wonderful to know that you can :)

Poor baby!
We have seen Dr. Wachsburg at SR Kaiser since Anna was born. He happened to be the doctor on when she was born, and we really liked him, so we asked to have her added to his panel. I really like that he makes himself available for questions and gives you his direct phone number. He's great. Very low key, but good at what he does. Good luck!
