It's quite rich that they're using the term *classic* when this is probably the most involved cake recipe I've ever seen in my life -five paragraphs on the frosting and filling alone!!!

I have a fully stocked pantry and the only ingredients on this list that I *actually have* are vanilla, salt, sugar and flour (if I'm willing to use pastry flour instead of cake flour yes there is a difference). So anyway, classic birthday cake it's not -more like Awesomely Gourmet Super Involved Million Layer Birthday Cake.

That said, I'm dying to make this thing. When I master this recipe, I'll know I'm truly a Baking Goddess. And just think how good it will taste!

That looks really yummy. I am a proponent of the 5-ingredient cooking type of things though so I'd probably copy it using a box mix and can of frosting. LOL

I've seen Food Network do something like that.
Brushing the cake with a rum mixture or something to that matter.
