All that money for a pretty face....Don't get me wrong she is beautiful.. but worth all that money?
In 12 months what she made could improve our classrooms, curriculum, etc..

I got to see her in person with no make-up.
She is super skinny, and average looking in my opinion with no make-up.
Put on the make-up and yeh, she's pretty.
That's how I would see it - All that money - where is it going? Is she donating some of her income? If I had that kind of money I would donate big time!

Yeah, it is pretty ridiculous but then there is a small window for her to get as much as she can because there are quite a few models I remember from the days when I read Cosmo that aren't on that list....Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Elle MacPhearson, Kathy Ireland, etc. Kinda like the big $$$ they pay for pro athletes, ya know?
I guess I don't find it that rediculous. She sells bras... to them, it's worth that much money b/c she brings in far more than that.l It's all about demand.

It is kind of dumb to me but if they are willing to pay her that much I suppose that is there perogative. Might be nice for them to pay her a tad less and give the employees an across the board 50 cent raise though yk? Eh to be a pretty face :) But all entertainment is like that, modeling, acting, sports figures, singers... "we" want the goods and are willing to pay the price it seems.

I'm confused...what are you saying here? She should be donating every cent she earns?
Here's how it works. She gets paid all that money because WE, the American Public, buy all the stuff that she models. We buy the Victoria's Secret bras. We buy the Dolce and Gabbana clothes (well, maybe not you and me, but you kwim). If her pretty face wasn't driving the sales of all that merchandise, if the advertising dollars weren't pulling in huge profits driven by the American consumers -you and me- she wouldn't even have a job.
Sure, that money would certainly be better spent donated to a better cause. But that isn't the way the world works.

No.. not at all am I saying she should donate a dime.. I'm just saying that it's crazy that we the American people are ass-backwards when it comes to priorities and where we channel our monies..

Oh, well, of course. The American culture is infected with the sickness of greed. Buy now, pay later is pretty much the motto. It's like Lisa's signature says:"The Bible calls debt a curse and children a blessing; but in our culture, we apply for a curse and reject blessings. Something is wrong with this picture." ~
Materialism is the opiate of the masses. I say it like I am not a part of it, don't get me wrong, I am just as guilty as the next person.
Everywhere you look there is some celebrity getting paid an exorbitant amount of money while children starve and die of AIDS in Africa. The gap between the rich and the poor in this country grows wider and wider as it gets harder and harder to claw your way to the top if you started at the bottom. It's like trying to swim across an ocean; the harder you swim, the faster you drown.
The rich stay rich because they pay for their children to go to college, they use their connections to other wealthy people to help their children get ahead. The poor stay poor because they're not as educated, they don't have nearly as much resources available to them and to pay your way through college while working is something very few people mange to do. It can be done; I know people who have -my parents, for example, but it's really, really, really realllllllly hard. Unbelievably hard. The middle class in America is beginning to disappear.
Meanwhile the minimum wage, which was originally intended to support a family of four, now won't even even support a single person working full time. We depend on immigrant labor to do the jobs that we won't. The cheaply paid labor workers often have to live in houses with multiple families per house. Health care costs are astronomical. I could go on and on......
All that said, modeling is a skill. It's not like Gisele just sits in front of a lens leisurely. Models work 12 + hour days in sometimes grueling conditions. And when your job depend on your body/face every little flaw, pound, whatever...everything has to be perfect all the time. I'm sure the pressure to look perfect is quite intense. It truly IS a tough job, and although we as a society are placing way too high a price on materialism and beauty; she should be compensated well for what I think is a pretty difficult job.
