I took tap dancing lessons in elementary school. I loved it and still tap around occasionally.

I took tap, jazz and ballet (but it was all at one place, we just did diff types of dance diff nights) but the night of our first recital (I was like 4 or 5) I wigged out from stage fright and my mom told me if i didn't go on stage, I wasn't allowed to come back the next week. So I quit. Right there. Before my recital. LOL.
Everyone always laughs when they hear that I dropped out of dance due to stage fright b/c that's so opposite of how i am now.

I took ballet and plan on having Ava take it too. Dustin really wants her and any other kids to take gymnastics. Since he used to be a personal trainer and is into body development he says that it helps you develop a sense of how your body muscles function, the obvious strength training benefits, balance and a ton of other stuff I cant remember he said. So she might be taking that too if she likes it. ;)

i plan on getting brendan into gymnastics classes once he's a little older. I think it's important for kids to do some kind of physical activity and gymnastics is proven to be really helpful for almost all athletes, so i think that's a good choice for a boy too :D

Ohh totally! I did gymnastics when I was in Elementary ...I loved it. I still remember one of the routines. Hehehehe!

I also think soccer and swimming are good for kids. Soccer for a number of reasons...fitness, strength, team work, etc. and Swimming for all those and knowing how to swim of course... :)

I was gettting excited for some classes in SR that I can start Mav in when he is 18 months. It's called Lil Kickers. It's a soccer program for kids and parents to do together to help build skill but also to learn team work, and responsibility and have a good time....Parents are encouraged to start in this group so they can learn the good sportsmanship too. (so many parents yell from the sidelines and seem to have forgotten it should be fun).

I can't wait!!!

No dance but I took lessons in flute, ice skating, karate, gymnastics, swimming, and played soccer for years.

Salina took gym once but we dropped out because of the expense and some crappy comments by moms standing by watching because although she was having fun, she is not very coordinated and they were complaining that she was taking up all the instructor's time. She did soccer for a season, but again was not a soccer star and was at more than enough games where the parents from both teams are yelling at each other across the field :rolleyes She did excel at riding lessons though, I really should get her back into that but they are $$$.

I started ballet lessons when I was 5.
Did ballet until I was 21. Took a break.
Then did Ballroom for about 3 years from 2001 to 2004.

Dan played soccer all his life, and still does at Sports City.

Victoria can kick a ball, just doesn't run yet. She does dance when any kind of music comes on, so I think she's got the dancing jeans!

nope. I lived at daycare until past 5:00 until I turned 12. Mom would pick us up and we'd go home for dinner or to daycare at the gym stopping by carl's jr. or thrifty's for ice cream on the way. No time for dance.

I took ballet as a preschooler. During my Waldorf days we were forced to take "eurithymy (sp?)" as part of the curriculum. :(

Oh my mom was a single working mom and we were at daycare until we were old enough to be latchkey kids too so our stuff was either on the weekends, after work, or my grandma took us before she died.

well that was their excuse :D The only reason I stopped going to daycare is I aged out, otherwise my mom would have had me in it indefinately I think... there was no time for other stuff, I went to daycare daycare then excersize daycare for an hour or more by that time it was nearly bed time. They just never made it a priority for me, now my younger brother is another story...

I took tap and jazz from 4th - 6th grade until my dance teacher quit giving lessons in Sonoma. I didn't want to have to go to Santa Rosa every week, so I quit (and I regret it to this day!).

LOL - this is so funny because that's *totally* how I was...completely uncoordinated at anything except horseback riding! I did it for years and absolutely loved it and would recommend it for anyone who can afford it. I was lucky that I'm an only child, so my parents could afford it.

Note on the uncoordinatedness....some of my friends refer to my dancing abilities as akin to Elaine in Seinfeld...it's pretty scary, really, but I will occasionally dance like a rockstar until my legs won't move anymore...granted you give me enough alcohol!

Yeah, Salina got the lessons while she was an only child herself but when Alaina came along we had to stop. We have discussed though that when she is in high school that working for a stable in trade for lessons is a definite possibility :)

Her nickname BTW is Grace because of her physical prowess :D

I danced a lot when I was a kid. Actually did Scottish Highland Dancing competitively from the time I was 6 until 17 then taught for a number of years. I was lucky to travel all over for competitions although my mom was a bit psycho about it.

Dancing is so important for kids. Especially girls as it really helps with their posture. I'm a huge advocate for physical activity for children. The confidence they gain from the right activity will help shape their life. I encourage every parent to find something that your child loves to do and stick with it.

One of the main reasons I opened my own franchise of My Gym is because it is a wonderful non-competitive environment for children. Unfortunately, I found in the dance world that many teachers didn't have good teaching skills for working with children. Many teachers are good at their sport, dance, etc. but not good with kids and depending on the program they may not get the training they need.

Teachers can have such a wonderful influence on children. It takes a village!

Hello to all the Mamas who don't know me!

I dance for years and years and years! I grew up in So Cal and danced competitively. I won many state titles and even danced at Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and every weekend I did 5 shows at the LA County fair!

I eventually turned down a dancing job at Disneyland and ended up teaching for few years. I danced for the College of Marin Dance Co, too.

I haven't danced much since my oldest was born almost 12 years ago. My youngest just started dancing in March. She went to the Petaluma School of Ballet Summer dance camp & took 7 classes a week! Yesterday was her last day. They did a little in studio performance to show what they learned. It was very sweet. They have a 2 week break until the regular classes start. She has already moved up to level 2 in Ballet! I think she's a natural...

I started ballet in 1st grade and continued until I was about 13. I also took ice skating lessons off and on. Took gymnastics a few times.. but kept messing up my sense of direction whenever I got to the floor exercise routine.

Needless to say, I envy all those who can have the agility, strength, and coordination for dancing.. I was alright at it.

I do still rollerblade (big passion of mine when I get the chance)... but hung up my pointe shoes for field hockey and softball cleats... I was a much better athlete!!
