View Full Version : What is your favorite park in SR? becky 08-16-2007, 02:51 PM I love Rincon Valley park but i think my girls are getting burned out on it. I would like to check out a few new ones in Santa Rosa. What are your favorites? Lynette 08-16-2007, 03:34 PM I can tell you what one sucks! That one off Sonoma Ave behind the school, I think it is called Doyle Park? Alaina and I had some time to kill while Salina was getting her hair done for the beginning of school so we went over there and there were like 20 homeless/unemployed/got nothin' better to do types over there in their cars full of trash smoking and cussing and sleeping on pinic tables or whatever. And they aaaaalllll watch and twitching as I pull in and circle around looking for a spot until I noticed that I was the minority and left which of course made Alaina scream her head off but I couldn't tell her freaky people were there so I lied and told her there were lots of bees. Sorry, just one of those days :rant meeg124 08-16-2007, 03:39 PM made Alaina scream her head off but I couldn't tell her freaky people were there so I lied and told her there were lots of bees. Sorry, just one of those days :rant Remember for future: Lots of bees = freaky people :lol I like Brush Creek Park. It's smaller, doesn't have a bathroom though and it's gated. Plus I've never seen any "bees" there. Sara 08-16-2007, 03:43 PM I just went to Pioneer park for the first time yesterday and really liked it. It is off Piner & Peterson lane. The only bad thing is it doesn't have bathrooms. The great thing is that there is a large enclosed play area with shade so you can keep the runners in check while you are there. We usually go to Howarth, but I don't like the crowds or the fact that it is so open and I usually have one child running one direction and the other in the opposite. Lynette 08-16-2007, 03:45 PM I like Brush Creek Park. It's smaller, doesn't have a bathroom though and it's gated. Plus I've never seen any "bees" there. Where is that one? I am bad about remembering park names, I just seem to remember locations. I figured she is already afraid of bees, so WTH ya know?! :lol lizirroja 08-16-2007, 03:50 PM We often go to the Hidden Valley park behind the elementary school. The boys love going up in the trees and tossing (not throwing of course haha) rocks in the creek. Then the other one we like is a new(ish?) one up at the top of Fountain Grove. If you're coming from RV then it is on the right way up at the top where everything levels off. However, there is not good shade so go in the morning or evening. I see it all the time when driving past....we haven't gone yet. Bathrooms aren't a necessity ...YET.....so maybe now is the time for us to go. My3sonsplus1 08-16-2007, 06:06 PM yeah I figured I hate Howarth last Friday when I took the kids there by myself while dh was playing softball. Besides the 'running in oppisite directions' aspect the kids just get plain *lost* in that huge structure thingee (that has what like 15 different ways to get on/off it) and there are like different 10 paths coming from the playground. meeg124 08-16-2007, 06:22 PM Where is that one? I am bad about remembering park names, I just seem to remember locations. I figured she is already afraid of bees, so WTH ya know?! :lol Brush Creek Park is off of Brush Creek Road.. you can see the park from Brush Creek Road but have to turn off of Brush Creek to get to the park. TaivensMama 08-16-2007, 06:40 PM Becky you are not far from rohnert park, you should try out a couple parks there...A park has a great structure and shaded areas also a play area for big and little kids...S park just got redone and it has one of those cool bouncy red structures that howarth does....the one we have had playdates at on myrtle is good too its in cotati as for SR I love howarth, I love that it has the option to be so much more than a park, the rides and snack bar and ducks and paths to walk, boats, water play etc...not to mention I can walk there so that is a plus for us! Also becky there is a VERY cool park in the neighborhood behind target, in the neighborhood there are two park areas and basketball court...I cant tell you what street its on but man is it fun and as i remember the sand is light in color and has a ton of fun play things and swings and I THINK it has a area you can gate off so toddlers can't run off...you should goo looking around there...its the houses directly behind target jellybeanmichelle 08-16-2007, 06:52 PM There is also Galvin Park. I know how to get there from here. I've only been to the soccer fields, but I hear the play area is cool too. And there are bathrooms. becky 08-16-2007, 07:10 PM Becky you are not far from rohnert park, you should try out a couple parks there...A park has a great structure and shaded areas also a play area for big and little kids...S park just got redone and it has one of those cool bouncy red structures that howarth does....the one we have had playdates at on myrtle is good too its in cotati Also becky there is a VERY cool park in the neighborhood behind target, in the neighborhood there are two park areas and basketball court...I cant tell you what street its on but man is it fun and as i remember the sand is light in color and has a ton of fun play things and swings and I THINK it has a area you can gate off so toddlers can't run off...you should goo looking around there...its the houses directly behind target The main reason I'm asking for parks in SR is that I often get requests for parks in SR so I thought i would expand my list for parks to visit. I've been to S park and that is very cool. The other park you mention is Colgan creek Park and that is not far from my home. i love that it has a fenced in area but i hate it that there are no bathrooms which i need to have now. TaivensMama 08-16-2007, 07:15 PM you could always get a portable potty chair, i had one everywhere I went with Taiven...He was out of diapers at 14 months so we needed it regardless of if there were bathrooms, because he would fall in at public toliets and just the thought of him touching those germy things gave me the heeby geebies!! They fold up super small and have little liners so you can dispose of them...just a thought becky 08-16-2007, 07:26 PM what kind of portable toilet do you recommend. i know when we were at the park on sunday the bathrooms that are usually really clean were horrible. I ended up taking Myah to a little spot between a little shack and bush so she could go potty "out in the wild" TaivensMama 08-16-2007, 07:41 PM Here is one similar to the one I used for Taiven...folds up and super portable I bet you could even use a plastic grocery bag if you didnt want to buy refils... they sell them at the baby wherehouse in petaluma as well...i think they havea few choices there of different brands too... It is inexpencive as well! http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=6087&cmSource=Search here is a cool one http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=361755&cmSource=Search and one with a lid... http://www.babyproofingplus.com/usrimage/travel_potty_green.jpg and also an inflatable one http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=153 Lorah 08-16-2007, 08:49 PM I have to say that I LOVE the water area at Howarth!!! I just took Mav there yesterday with a friend and her little one too. OMG!!! They had SOOO MUCH FUN!!!! Maverick loved the water so much! Even after he got shot up the nose while bending down to look and wait for it he still went back for more! I never knew that was there... becky 08-16-2007, 08:53 PM i had no idea there were so many different kinds. thanks for the links. TaivensMama 08-16-2007, 09:20 PM It is so fun huh Lorah!!..Taiven LOVES it...I bet it was cute to see mav and all his tininess in the water haha.... Sure Becky :) Lorah 08-17-2007, 01:54 PM It is so fun huh Lorah!!..Taiven LOVES it...I bet it was cute to see mav and all his tininess in the water haha.... Yep! VERY! We stripped him down to his diaper and let him have at it. He was running around and nearly getting stepped on by the big kids who didn't happen to see a person half their size running with them... A ton of mms kept asking..."how old is he?!" "He is so tiny!" When I said he was 11 months, they were amazed, and even more so when I said he had been walking a few months now..... I can only imagine how people reacted when they saw Taiven! He was little, and young when he walked....6 months right? WOW.... The looks I get can't compare to what you saw I'm sure.....but its kinda fun huh? Yes, my kid walks....AND he's cute.......hehehehehe We should go sometime and let Taiven and Mav play....they would like that! Taiven loves Mav, and Mav loves Taiven too. :) |
