I would like to start making things from scratch.

So far on my list is Tomato Sauce, jams/jellies, peanut butter, and yogurt.

What do you make from scratch? :cook :hungry

I make all my sauces from scratch and do jams when the fruit is around (and free on the side of the road!). I haven't made yogurt but I've heard it's pretty easy and tasty, too. What I think would be fun is to get a bunch of people together and we can each make something different and trade...then you have delicious homemade goodies and you didn't have to do all the work.

Hmmmm.... I try and make everything from scratch. I usually buy pasta sauce unless its summer and we have lots of tomatoes. I try not to buy a lot of processed food for the health factors and b/c we can taste the difference. Not that Im here churning my own butter or anything but we try really hard to avoid things like hydroginated oils, etc. I dont know why this is so hard for me to answer. Here's an example: We butter and season our own garlic bread, never store bought, but we do buy the french bread and butter at the store. KWIM? So its never truely from scratch unless Im baking.

Sorry for the long rambling. LOL

I make almost everything from scratch with all ingredients from the garden, tomato sauce, pesto, squash/zuccini soup, apple crisp, etc.

We love home made garlic bread, it's way much better! and we also buy the french bread at the market!

I make most things from scratch. If Scott is cooking, he uses more processed foods. I have to admit the one thing that I hate making from scratch though is chicken broth. Nothing more disgusting that pulling meat from a boiled chicken carcass bleh.

This winter I plan on making tons of things from scratch and freezing them because my parents gave us a freezer to keep in the garage. I can't wait!!! With the move and getting caught up I haven't had time for a while, so it will be nice to get back to it.

Oh and the stink! Yuck!

I dunno if I have made much of anything from scratch lately, I mean we don't eat a lot of frozen or boxed stuff but I am hardly cranking out my own pasta or baking cakes from scratch. I have done jam before and whatnot but Alaina is just not the kind of kid who will play on her own long enough or with her sister for more than 20min so making dinner is about all I can get done some days.

Homemade garlic bread is better, I agree.
When it's not hot, I wanna try making bread. If I had a bread machine, I think I would be making bread everyday!

Ice Cream is another I wanna try, but I want to buy the mixer attachment that goes to my kitchen aid mixer.

I had homemade potatoe salad lastnight, Love it!

I guess I'm looking to make things that I can freeze and make in big batches.

I totally know what you mean, I don't churn my own butter. If we had a cow, maybe. :) I guess right now some of our meals are like Semi-Homemade Sandra Lee. I would like most of our meals to be mostly homemade.

I make nearly everything from scratch.... pasta sauces, spreads, dips, salsas, salads (green, pasta, potato, rice, etc), muffins, cakes, breads, baby foods, ice creams, puddings, pancakes, soups, stews, chillis.... ummmm so much stuff.....I don't buy frozen dinners unless its for something unusual, I just make it all homeade....

I make a lot from my garden veggies and fruits too. But if its the off season and or if we don't have it growing we go buy it and then I use those things to make my stuff from stratch still. :)

I LOVE TO COOK and BAKE!

We had a bread machine for awhile and I think I used it half a dozen times because although the bread was *really* good, we had to use a mix and the stupid mix cost as much as a loaf of bread so it seemed silly after awhile. If you do get one, make sure you can use your own flour, etc because the mixes are pricey.

No kidding! It's hard to feel like cooking/baking and adding more heat when it's so hot already. Perfect weather for cold pasta salads :)

I have made yogurt a half dozen times but it seems rather time consuming as you have to heat the milk up to a certain point, and then cool it back down to within a certain range and the cooling time to get to that temp can vary greatly so I feel like I end up hovering over the stove alllllllllllllll day long trying to catch the window of oppurtunity.

Our vitamix is supposed to work as a bread maker too. I have never used it as that though.

PB shoudl be super easy it is just blenderized peanuts, maybe a touch of salt maybe a touch of honey.

I prefer jarred sauces to home made. I am not good at flavoring it well and it ends up just tasting like stewed tomatoes no matter what I do.

:) Try adding a lot more what you think you should on the spices/garlic/onion, and I sometimes add a pinch of sugar to tomato sauces...it makes a HUGE difference!

I LOVE making my own spaghetti sauce... and bread, and cakes, and yep, I have even made my own butter ;) IT was VERY easy, and not that time consuming using an electric beater... and it was soooo good! I took some homemade braided bread and homemade butter to a friends house about a year ago for a bbq, and yuuuummmmyyyyy.... (I'll have to make some next time some of us get together ;) ) ... I also think that homemade ice cream is SOOO much better than ANY store or shop bought ice cream ... at least my dads is...lol
