I hate figuring out lunch and while these look great, it stresses me out even more! Too much work to think about it! I could see myself doing this for 3 days and then I would get too lazy. LOL You go girls!

Um someone is going to have to explain "bentoing" to me!? I don't get this! Is it just art with food? Or are people making their kids lunches like this? Or is it a joke kinda thing? I am so out of it! LOL
bentoing in general is a way to compartmentalize lunches to make them bite-sized amounts. A lot of people believe children will eat more healthy food if it's presented in a "fun" way. (hence the celery, ham sandwich and cucumber tulips).
MOST people that I know who bento just do like fun shaped sandwiches, and compartments of things like grapes, crackers, etc, to help make lunch more fun.
This mama went above and beyond this time to make something fun and crazy. This is NOT what her normal lunches look like, but her girls went NUTS for this and her 3 year old actually asked her to make her one too :lol
For kids like Brendan, Bentoing is great b/c he doesn't eat much at all unless food is made to be fun. Sometimes I dunno how he can function on such a small amt of food.

I just looked at the first picture and thought no way was that enough food--then I saw the 2nd one. No way could I do something like that. I agree-the blue rice is strange.

OK I get it kinda, so why is it called bentoing? Sorry to be so out of it. I am intrigued!
Bento is a traditional Japanese lunch box where the lunch is compartmentalized like this, but with sushi, rice, salad, etc.

Ahhhh... Looks like a wet wipes container...? Or do you buy special boxes for it?

You should see all the fun stuff to buy, to do bento! Karen... try doing a google search on bento. You'll be amazed at all the stuff! Jackie posted a link in another thread, to a blog for a friend of hers that does bento boxes for her kids... the lunches are so fun and even though I am not creative at all, I can't wait to get our bento boxes and start poaching ideas from other people, to make some great lunches for Caden!
Probably not a wipes container, but you can use special made bento lunch containers or just a rectangle plastic box. People use cupcake papers or silicone wrappers to hold the food. It cuts down on waste since you don't need to use disposable wrappers.

Apparently it is like a housewife art form there, I have seen some wild stuff but it is like their way of giving lunch that extra special touch like a love note or putting in a favorite treat, ya know?

I have coupon codes for laptoplucnch.com (10%) as well as one I think is still good at reuasble bags.com (15%) if anyone is interested. I just sent in my order a few days ago for the LapTopLunch co-op that only a few people showed any interested in. The Laptoplunch system seems to have co-ops running fairly often (usually for the mixed lots) though so if anyone is interested later on I can hook you up with one that is currently running.

Thanks for that info.
laptop lunch boxes are great.
The one in the pic is a Hello Kitty box from the Dollar Store.
There are also some at Target that are clear.

I dunno, as a kid who got that lunch I might *say* my mom was a crazy loser with too much time on her hands but inside I would feel special that my mom made the extra effort to surprise and wow me :)

:yeah
I certainly wouldn't color rice but I like to take the time to do special little things for Caden and Scott and if they smiled when they saw their bear shaped sandwiches, that would make me happy and think the extra 30 seconds it took to cut them out, was time well spent.

and she's not making that lunch for a 14 year old :lol She's making it for a 4 year old. That's a big diff.

The lunchbox I send to daycare with Logan has an icepack in it to keep the food cool do they do that in the Bento lunchbox also?
yeah, traditional bentos actually go into a outer bag similar to a lunch bag - but fancier. Most people I know pack the bento with certain things frozen (like the water bottles or yogurt) then put it in the bag with icepacks.
