I also heard about how our names would come up in Google...so I checked...I only have 1 (one) hit, and it is not for SCM, but for my hubby's work. I don't know if ithas to do with my settings or what, but I'm glad to see that nothing from here came up!

It was interesting to see all the other people with the same exact name, spelling and all, that came up though. Some aren't making a good name of the name though....I'm glad I'm not them. :)

yeah nothing really came up for me either.... I have a hit for the parent pack at the bottom of the first page (but that is only because I am member of the month, after I am not on the home page I think that will be gone ) and a hit referencing that I live in RP which I don't on BeckaLynn Designs in regard to s shower announcement but those are not in my legal name. My legal name has a hit for a non-active yahoo group I am in. So even though I am in 569841659 groups online I am still a "nobody"...

My name came up for my business site as well as meetup.com where I had placed an "ad" of sorts for SCM. It also came up from a post in a business networking group. If I add Brianna's name, nothing comes up at all.

I think you just have to use common sense in where you put your name out there on the internet. One of the MAIN reasons I use a PO box for business!

I don't notice anything for my son. I know mine shows up since I'm a notary, it even shows my address.

If I use my first and last name my Dane site comes up, some dog show results, and a member listing from the RP mom's club which I haven't been a member of in more than a year but if I type in my first name and either of the girl's first names, SCM links come up I guess because they tend not to be common names so I changed my member info months ago taking out birthdays, stuff like that.

So, you mean if we put our first and last name into a google search, a link to our user profile on this site comes up? Sorry, I'm a little slow with this . . . If so, that's a bit disconcerting.

Oh, okay, because I googled my name - just my first name (what an idiot!) and some model from South America came up - Ha, ha, ha. Then I added my last name and still nothing.

I changed info on my profile to be pretty generic... I usually get a google hit that is related to me if I put in my email addy's

Ok, so both my married name and maden name - I'm still a nobody.
BUT, if I enter my screen name, there are a few links to SCM and 1 to my blog spot.

I get nothing with my married name. There's a golf player and a singer that seem to take up most the hits. If I use my maiden name, the 3rd result is a pdf of my Employee of the Month award from a couple of years ago! LOL

the only way your information will come up on google is if you type it out in a public forum which is indexable by search engine spiders. If you go into the Forum Main page (where it lists every forum we have) you'll notice that every forum has a description stating if it's public or not. That's the point of that. That's also why we have a PRIVATE forum (which is highly under utilized on our board).
That's supposed to be where you post things that you don't want the general public to read/search engines to be able to spot.
Search engines are a very un-complex beast. If you write something ANYWHERE on the internet and it's public (ie, no password needed to view it) they WILL index it and it WILL show up on a search engine. There's no way around it.

Ha Ha!

If I search Heather Lars I get a bunch of hits for some story line on General Hospital. I guess a character, named Heather had a son named Steven Lars.

If I search HeatherK Lars I get a few links to SCM.

I've searched with my maiden name before and I have the same name as a popular Canadian ballerina!

If you really want to search yourself put your first and last name in quotation marks.

I googled our Santa Rosa number and it showed our address from 2 years ago. The number is now with Vonage. I also tried our Sacramento number which has only been Vonage with us and there was not a hit.... Does that mean that PacBell or the local equivalent is selling the info...??

Curious thought

didn't someone post here before about getting your phone number unlisted on google so your address and personal info doesn't come up? Maybe it was on another board but you can unlist your phone number from google.

The phone trick is if you pay the $1.25 per month to be unlist you can't be googled. If you don't... then you can google your house

I don't know about the cost aspect, but I know when we signed up for our phone number they asked us what information we wanted listed in the phonebook, information (411), and on the Internet. They give you choices, First name only, first and Last, Last name only, no name at all, name and number, name and address, just number, just address, number and address, name etc. WE opted to just do name and number. We use to have nothing listed in the phone book, but for some reason we changed our minds this time around.
