Okay I was curious enough that I went to her website to see what was up...

It's Dr. Oz! I love him! He is all over the latest diet and exercise scene! I posted awhile back about seeing him on Oprah and how he was saying your waist should be more than so many inches...

here was that post I made:
So I was watching Oprah yesterday (I normally never watch TV, but it was hot and we just wanted to zone)?

So Dr. OZ was on again. He is that really well known Dr. that co-wrote a few books on healthy lifestyles and eating right, etc.

This time he took questions from viewers and those in the studio to help clarify questions and comments from his last appearance and from the book more recently out.

Anyway...it was really interesting....and the 2 things I took away from it as seeming important were these:

1. Children learn from an early age that food is the answer. Whether or not it is given as a punishment or a reward or to keep them occupied or whatever, the reasons you eat as a child stay with you your whole life.....hence people eating when depressed, happy, to celebrate etc. So, we need to train our kids as best we can to eat healthfully, and appropriately now, so they wont over eat, under eat, or become unhealthy in their eating later in life and have a hard time retraining themselves.

2. A general rule of thumb for determining you healthy body fat amount is this.... Take you height in inches, divide that by 2, then at the point of your belly button use a measuring tape to check the waist measurment as you suck your stomach in as hard as you can. Your measurement should not be larger than half your height in inches. The reason you suck in really hard is that the point is NOT to see your actual size, but rather see the extra fat beyond your muscles and organs, the only way to do that is to suck in all the muscle leaving the fat for measurement.
So for example: I am 5'6", so 12x5=60 + 6 = 66 /2 = 33 inches....so for my height my stomach at my belly button when sucking in should not be over 33 inches....(he did not say how many under that is okay, but he did say that on that target is the best). I am a little below my target.

Anyway....it was a really interesting show. Just thought I would share. Take it for what it is worth... :)

anyway......ya....I think that is what Michelle is trying to tell us about....Dr. Oz!

I might know who you are talking about. She is the one who doesn't like anyone to make normal noises. That wouldn't be something I would want to tell everyone to watch....I have a feeling she is going to be made to look a bit crazy.

I know her from a Christian attachment parenting yahoo group, besides that I don't know a lot of her "background".

Thanks for the head's up... although I have to say that I hate over dramatic headlines like that.... They make autism sound like it's fatal.

:yeah :headscratch It really does make autism sound like a fatal disease, and a quick killing one at that... like they have months to live.

Yeah I don't know how it will be played out... She is "sound sensitive", 'clinically' I believe, but I am not sure if her family is louder than normal on top of that or what. I have heard that Dr. Phil can/has done a number to misrepresent people in the editing dept. :(
