Can anyone suggest a good place to buy tiramisu? I need to buy a whole cake for my favorite co-worker/friend, and since I've never had it I don't know a good one from crap.

Usually I'd make the office cakes but I just don't want to spend all the money buying the ingredients if I will likely never make it again. Ya know??

TIA

You should make it....SUPER easy and not ingredients you will save, well, except the rum. Much easier than cake and my recipe is better than any I've tasted at restaurants (and I'm usually pretty modest). For a party I would double this recipe and use a big glass pan 9 X 13. I'm serious people are going to rave over this!

3 eggs
1/2 c sugar
1 c strong coffee (I use a lot more than 1 c...make a pot)
2T Brandy (cheapest brand is fine)
8 oz. Mascarpone (cheese section of store)
1/8 c cocoa powder
20 ladyfingers (not the soft kind, the crispy ones)

Combine 2 egg yolks, 1T coffee, sugar & brandy. Beat. Add Mascarpone and beat until smooth.

Beat 3 egg whites w/pinch of sugar until stiff peaks form. Fold into Mascarpone mixture above.

Dip ladyfingers into coffee and layer bottom of dish with them. Spread 1/2 of mixture and sprinkle with cocoa. Repeat for 2nd layer.

Refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving.

Yield: one small glass dish

I had a wonderful Tiramisu at my going away luncheon at Olive Garden!!! I am not sure if they sell whole ones though. Sounds like there are some great suggestions here already!

I made this yesterday and I am eating some now. So yummy! (The best thing is it takes maybe 20-30 min to fix and it is done! No baking.)

Sugo's in Petaluma and Lombardi's Deli on Petaluma Blvd. north (also suggested TJ's and Costco)
