View Full Version : Quick help: substitute for tomato sauce?

Have everything to make beef stew tonight and Dustin is really looking forward to it. I neglected to notice that I am out of tomato sauce and it calls for 8oz. All I have is a can of crushed tomatos and pasta sauce. Do you think either of these would taste good or should I just scrap it until tomorrow when I can pick some sauce up?

I think the crushed tomatoes would probably work okay.

:yeah just add all the juice with it and maybe mush up the tomatoes some more.

Thanks ladies. I just know the sauce really adds the flavor so I didnt want to screw it up and wasnt sure.

Forget it! I just started cooking and havent made stew since last winter. I forgot that it takes 2 hours to cook so I guess we are doing it tomorrow anyway. Looks like pork chops tonight!

Ohh I missed this when you first posted it....I was going to say the crushed tomatoes would work just fine, that is what I use instead of sauce....oh well...tomorrow will not be too far off.
