View Full Version : No cold medicines for children under 6

I usually don't take cold meds even for myself, so I rarely (if ever?) give them to the kids.

Gosh a lot of stories about this lately!
I never take it anymore...and Mav hasn't either....Travis takes the *real* Sudafed when he has a sinus infection.

Does anyone know if this includes regular (not cold version) of childrens benedryl? We had to give it to Ava when she had that rash and Im wondering if I should toss it.
I would think Benedryl is OK because it is often used to fight allergies & severe allergic reactions (and I've seen it work)...not sure though.

So regular Tylenol is ok right? It is the cough and cold Tylenol that they are talking about?? Or any other medicine that is multi-use?
it says antihistamines too, so i'd think benadryl would be a nono. But I have to say, i'm not pitching anything we have, personally.

I'm going to keep the benadryl around for emergency allergy treatment....I've seen it work, and I'm really good about *not* giving an overdose...
that's my thing. the ingredients in childrens med's have been used for decades and all the deaths were from overdoses. To me, banning all medication b/c a few parents don't know how to read a box is pointless. It's like saying "Well, we're going to ban all alcohol b/c the guy down the street couldn't hold his liquor". Yeah, that makes perfect sense :rolleyes I'm a responsible adult who can read directions and dose my child appropriately. Whether they say the meds work or not, I've seen them make Brendan feel better, so I will continue to give them when I feel necessary in the recommended doses.
