View Full Version : Awesome changes coming
Like the farmer dangling the carrot, I just wanted to tell everyone that a new update to vBulletin is coming out in a few weeks and we are ALL OVER upgrading the site as soon as it comes out. I have a coder already committed to doing everything for us so it should be a quick and smooth transition. I'll be sure to let you know when it's going to happen, but I'm going to be a big meany and not tell you any of the super-cool new features we'll get (and those of you who know, or run a vB site, DONT SPILL THE BEANS! LOL).
oh, and in other news, remember how last year we debated buying the license or leasing it and chose to lease it so that we could donate more money to a charity?
Well, it ran up the other day and we were able to buy it this year thanks to increased advertising on the site. Yippeeeee!

Well technically a few mean 3 or more....heheheh so maybe it means the new year?
basically the new edition is in beta. Once it's out of beta (normally 2-4 weeks) we will add it to SCM :)

I'm not that computer savvy. What does this mean for SCM since you/we bought the license?

I think last time she said it means that we wont be renting the site yearly anymore, we own it now. Not 100% though. Im sure she will reply to verify.

Thanks!
when you use vBulletin there are two options:
A Leased License of the software is one of those and that's what we'd done before. It costs about $80 a year if I recall and you have to pay that $80 every year in order to be able to download the upgrades coming up (like the ones mentioned in the OP). OR you can do a Owned License which is $170ish and then you OWN the software, you just have to pay like $30 a year to get your upgrades for the year. Previously we'd not been able to afford the full $170 lump sum (we'd never had that much income all at once before) but this year (thanks to our increased Advertising) we are able to afford it. Which will make next years maintenance bill a bit lower for us, giving us more $$ to use in promoting the site itself :D

Ok, cool!
Kind of like buying a car.
You now have the "pink slip", but you just have to give it an oil change every now and then.
Got it! Thanks!
