I'm looking for some rail road tracks to take some photos of my girls. I have a shoot I want to take but need some tracks that i get some long stretches of track without modern cars or people in the shot. I tried shoot at RR square in SR this afternoon but just couldn't frame the shot how i wanted becuase of the dang cars and people. Help please!

Petaluma. The corner of Lakeville & D-Street. Cool old train station building restored too.

The tracks in RP aren't being used and if you go to the south end the houses get sparser especially as you go into Penngrove. Check out the tracks going south that intersect at East Cotati. If you go all the way to the end of Lancaster it dead ends into rural area and the tracks are to the left. Or you could go to Railroad Ave just south of Cotati as the tracks run south into Penngrove because that is all rural too.

damn, wish i knew directions but there are some tracks in Downtown SR that I used to use. I don't really know how we got there b/c we just kind of went driving and followed tracks back into the woods, and it was all overgrown, etc, so there was nothing in the shot but loooon stretch of tracks, some trees and tall weeds/grass. I took a few models there, but i can't for the life of me remember what roads we took. It was near some daycare...

Jackie that place sounds great. Do you remember if it was it north or south SR? Do you remember any near by cross streets that i can maybe start off at and try and find my way there?

You might want to try the aerial view of mapquest.
The RR tracks by Hearn Ave and Dutton Ave look like there are alot of trees.
You can't really see the tracks from the air, but I think it would give you an idea of what is around there.

Becky - For the petaluma rail tracks -
Take the Petaluma Blvd North exit. Turn Right. Left on Lakeville Hwy (the outlets are about half way)
Just stay on Lakeville Hwy. You will see an old brick building on left at the intersection of Lakeville and D. The old train station on the right is now the visitors center.

I think it's a cool area worth checking out but it sounds like there are other great area around too. Good luck. Can't wait to see the pics.

What about the tracks north of Santa Rosa, near the town of Fulton?
The tracks south of Santa Rosa are kind of rural too......south of where they intersect Todd Rd

There is always railroad square downtown. It's a long stretch and you can get to lots of trees.

becky, I honestly don't remember. I jsut remember we passed some railroad tracks in a more industrial area, so we decided to hop through some sides streets and see if we could follow them. We went back into an industrial area about 10 blocks and found where it went through the trees.
