What kind do you have, or would you recommend. I am so done with my crappy dirt devil upright. It is so loud and doesn't suck all that great, and even with allergy bags it's kicking out so much dirt that it's leaving me ill!

So before I do a lot of consumer report searching.. what do you have that you love?

Dyson, or Dyson, or Dyson, or maybe a Dyson? Best vacuum cleaner ever and we have had a Rainbow, a Electrolux, and a Kirby so some of the big name high end players out there but you will seriously puke at what is in the bin the first time you vaccuum just one room with a Dyson.

I need help in this department too. I've gone through so many vacuums at the gym. 1,800 sf vacuumed once or twice everday.

I'm about ready to buy a $400 Oreck. It has a 3 year warranty and free annual service. I had a less expensive Oreck before which I really liked. They are very light weight and compact. The only downfall is the attachment hose for corners, furniture, etc is a separate unit that you have to buy in addition.

The vacuum we have at home is a Kenmore canister vacuum. Got it from Sears 11 years ago. I just took it for repair at Redwood Vacuum. Good as new for $50.

The last one I bought was from Best Buy. Can't remember the brand but I paid $20 for the extra warranty. When it stopped working I took it back. They couldn't fix it so I got a new vacuum which I picked. Unfortunately that one works like crap. Still nice to get the free replacement.

I have an old beater Rainbow that is super powerful, but a PITA to lug around and mess with water, etc. So, I cajoled DH into buying a Dyson Slim. It is super duper awesome with dust and cathair and it is really easy to grab, plug in, and use with little or no fuss. However, it makes me so mad when it won't pick up a thing the size of a pea--something that would never happen with my beastly Rainbow. I still don't think there is an ideal vacuum out there for me, but I would say a Dyson is a good call.

we have a bissell lift off and really like it. We have had it for about 3 years. My only complaint is that it has a lot of filters to change/replace. When this one dies we are going to get a dyson.

I am in love with Dyson. I have the animal and it is great since I have two indoor dogs. I love it since it is light and is easy to dump the canister.
It wasn't cheap though......I think I paid near $500.

I *heart* my dyson animal. it's amazing. My allergies have NEVER been so under-control in my life thanks to that thing. I replaced a Kirby with it and have never looked back

Salina says that is what gives it its magical powers :D The hose attachment built into the handle is just genius too. I hate to admit how many times I just left the crap along the edge of the baseboards because it was such a PITA to switch out the hose with old vaccuums.

Thanks ladies.. I have checked consumer reports as well as some other reviews of uprights and features. Bag vs. bagless.. emissions, hepa, noise (big one for us right now), and ability to do combo hardwood floor/carpet..

So far I'm looking at the Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870...

Unfortunately Walmart, Kohls are out of stock and Target is only online.. I'll be checking Kohls in Santa Rosa and Costco...
