They have BBQ's. Four baby swings. Four of the rocking horses, seesaw, playstructure with slides for littler kids and a play structure for older kids, A lot of trees for shade, picnic tables and a pool right there too.

Additional Notes: It would probably be easiest if we found a place that had grills onsite? Did something say Howarth Park (sp??) has them? We've never been, but I think I'll have JR take us there Saturday morning to scope it out if thats where yall recommend

Howarth has grills but it is often hard to get a spot (free) that has one. I think Finley also has a grill or two.

Really the more "conviences" a place has the less likely we will be able to just get it on a whim, yk. We are starting to get into "late spring/summer party weather". I don't think it would be too hard for someone (or 2 people) to bring their grill, I think it would make trying to find a place easier since we wouldn't have to worry about that factor and would just have to concentrate on a safe place, that is age appropriate for all involved, that will have an open space that day.

LMS

my concern is that some places say you aren't able to use grills if they don't have them (fire precautions). IF it's going to be busy, then JR and I will just go early and stake out our place bright and early. Maybe I'll tan a little ;)

where is Howarth Park located at?

*IF* we go with Finley, I live literally down the street so JR could bbq at our house and I could bring "the goods" to the park while they are still warm. Just an option.

Howarth is over off Hwy 12 going towards Sonoma, about 10 miles east of you and a bit south. I know you are new to the area, can't really think of any markers you would know of... the biggest problem with Howarth, and any other park that you have the option of buying a space is that if you choose a spot that someone HAS paid for you are lose your spot since they "own it" and you might not find out until you are all set up if they have their party starting mid-day and have rented it for the day. I don't know how often it happens but surely it does, and parking is a *big* issue at Howarth. There are seroiusly like.. I dunno less than 100 parking spots for the entire humugeous park. People have been know to have to stake out a Howarth spot at 8 a.m. I hear. And we have been known to spent 20-30 minutes circling the stupid place for a parking spot trying to attend said Howarth Park parties ;)

Have you actually seen signs that say no BBQ's around here? I don't think I ever have but I understand the concept totally.

LMS
05-18-2006, 01:25 PM
no, but i don't *think* it has to be posted. In know in Texas, b/c of burn bans during summer, if theyw eren't provided they weren't allowed. With the lack of rain lately, it wouldn't suprise me if that's the case here too.

Okay, Howarth is out.

Lynette
05-18-2006, 02:34 PM
Lisa is right about Howarth which is too bad because it is sooooo cool! But then that is why everyone else is there too :) If it was a weekday before school was out, it wouldn't be a big deal but I think some daycamps are based there or at least there were some there when we went over Spring Break?

Sorry to be a moron, but when is the picnic again? Maybe I am having a mental block because I already figured out I couldn't go...

There is a park near my house that is small but has a grass area, benches with a BBQ, two playgrounds (one for the big kids and a smaller one the is fenced in for the little ones) and a basket ball court. The only down side is there are no bath rooms. If i can think of any place else i will let you know.

We'll need to find a park that's atleast close to a plaza that might have restrooms (or like anna said, the one by her moms house if he mom is okay with people coming in for potty breaks)

Anna: Is your mom planning on coming?

jellybeanmichelle
05-18-2006, 07:48 PM
Jackie: I'll bring a cake.

There is Sunrise park in Rohnert Park. It has bathrooms, baseball field, basketball, kid area, picnic tables, I think BBQ things, soccer field, and parking isn't a problem, as you can park in the small lot, or on the side street, or across the street where the daycare center's are.

daisydoc
05-19-2006, 08:58 AM
Jackie: I think so... but I'll check with her when I see her today and make sure.

LMS

What does everyone think of Sunrise Park in RP? I think I'm going to drag JR there this weekend. Michelle: where's it located at?

jellybeanmichelle
05-19-2006, 01:44 PM
Sunrise is located on the corner of Rohnert Park Expressway and Snyder Lane.

Remember ladies!! I need to knwo what people are bringing!

Since we are grilling, does someone wanna bring hot dogs or something?

daisydoc
05-19-2006, 06:02 PM
Just a thought Jackie... maybe have everyone bring a dish or plates/silverware etc... and their own meet to grill since everyone has preferences on meat choices (ie: i don't eat red meat so I wouldn't eat hot dogs or hamburgers.) And that would make it more affordable for everyone so not just one person is paying for the most expensive stuff. Let me know what you think. :)

I think that sounds like I great idea Anna, we have certain dietary restrictions to as far as what kind of meat we buy/what I want the kiddos eating. And meat is really expensive, and I am pg so I tend to be a piggie :love

LMS
05-19-2006, 09:33 PM
okay, lets do it that way... do we want everyone bringing their MAIN thing (sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, etc, or tofu in annas case ;)) then we'll each bring something small like a bag of chips or a side of potato salad? Is that okay?

lmfike
05-19-2006, 11:03 PM
Sounds good. So someone will have bbq the others can use? We will plan to be there as long as my dh doesn't make other plans for us.

LMS
05-19-2006, 11:33 PM
yeah, i think anna and i are tenatively planning on bringing ours.

Remember to everyone who is coming, I need to know what "potluck" items yall are bringing.

LMS
05-20-2006, 07:37 PM
Okay, Michelle, I went to the park today and we're going to need the tent. The Gazebo area is just a slatter roof so there's no real shade from it. I think we picked out where we want to set it up too, so you and I can talk about when we'll get there that morning to set it up. YOu said you have tables and chairs?

shawmich
05-20-2006, 09:43 PM
I have a couple of smaller tables that would work to put food on

LMS
05-20-2006, 10:35 PM
okay, cool. That's what we can do then.

daisydoc
05-21-2006, 08:48 PM
I have access to 8 ft rectangular tables too that we can use if we need them. Just need to know so I can ask if I can borrow them.

Yes... James and I can bring our BBQ... it's propane. And I think it's a fabulous idea for everyone to bring their main dish and then another item for the "potluck"... like dessert, chips/dip, plates/napkins/cups, ice, sodas, water etc...

I have to let James know he's busy on June 3rd! ;) Haven't had a chance to do that yet!

LMS
05-21-2006, 09:17 PM
anna: we'll brings ours too. It's a kettle style one, but we have the quicklight charcoal so it shouldn't take too long to get moving.
Here's what I'm thinking as far as tables go. If we want to sit in the shade, we need to provide our own tables. If we want the food under the tent and us on the picnic tables over on the other side of the park, that's fine, but the playground is PRETTY far away, so i was thinking we could do the tent a lil closer to the playground, and tables under it. we dont' have ANY tables, so if you have some that would be great.

Also, should we all plan on bringing our own folding chairs or whatever?

I *think* we have a cooler too, that I can bring for ice... it's not huge though, so if anyone else has one they can bring that would be great.

daisydoc
05-22-2006, 08:24 AM
Jackie: We don't have a large cooler but if you're thinking about it for ice for the drinks we have big tubs that we use for parties that I can use. I think everyone should bring their own "seating" b/c some may want to camp out closer to the playgrounds and others may not (just depends on where the kiddos want to play :) ).

So looks like I'm bringing: tubs for ice/drinks, bbq and maybe one 8 ft table?? whacha think?

LMS
05-22-2006, 08:31 AM
anna: sounds good

LMS
05-22-2006, 08:34 AM
okay, we've had several people back out on the calendar, so i need to find out EXACTLY who is coming. I dont' want to put michelle to all the trouble of bringing and setting up the tent if we are only going to have like 3 members there.

daisydoc
05-22-2006, 03:20 PM
Jackie: Ya and we won't need two bbqs and extra tables if only three members are coming. I hope more people can come! :o

LMS
05-22-2006, 05:23 PM
exactly my line of thinking....

daisydoc
05-22-2006, 05:27 PM
Jackie: just curious... there are 7 people "signed up" on the RSVP list on the calender... have some of those people verbally said they aren't coming and just haven't taken their name off the RSVP list?

LMS
05-22-2006, 05:40 PM
When I look at the calendar, I show only 3 people are signed up

lmfike
05-22-2006, 05:42 PM
I also see 7 people RSVP on the calender for the spring picnic.

LMS
05-22-2006, 06:31 PM
can either of you PM me the names on your calendar page? For some reason, mine is only showing 3 now.

eta: I changed a setting and now i have 7. Sorry for the confusion....

I still need a list of what the following people are bringing:

dacotahsgirl (http://www.sonomacountymom.com/forum/member.php?u=9)
lmfike (http://www.sonomacountymom.com/forum/member.php?u=4)
shawmich (http://www.sonomacountymom.com/forum/member.php?u=62)

alowe: I got your PM. Why don't you plan on something non-imperative, like chips?

lmfike
05-22-2006, 06:41 PM
We'll bring chips and possibly some type of salad.

LMS

Anna is about to write up directions that we are going to post. I know it's over by Range Road and it's huge - you can't really miss it. and it starts at 11:30. Even if you can swing by for just a few minutes, that would be great!

Just to make sure are bathroom facilities going to be available? As my husband so eloquently put it when men have to go they will find a bush if need be. Just want to save us wives the embarrassment.

Bringing the tent is not big deal. It is no problem to set up and doesn't take up to much room in the car.

Oh I'll bring a fruit salad and appetizer (Costco of course :lol ).

LMS
05-24-2006, 11:39 PM
michelle: Annas parents live down the road so there will be a bathroom available there if need be. ;) Don't worry. I wont be mortified if he lines up the other hubbies to block the view of him peeing in the bushes. LOL! My husbands done worse.

daisydoc
05-25-2006, 10:10 AM
To all: my parents live down the street and have graciously said that we can use their house as a "potty station" since there are no bathrooms on the park premises. :)

Jackie & Michelle: right there with ya on the whole men peeing in the bushes! For whatever reason they seem to enjoy peeing outdoors... I guess you have to have the correct plumbing to understand that one! ;)

What do you guys want us to bring? I mean, what do we already have so far? ;)

Jackie-
I will bring juices/soda/water. I will just go to Costco and grab a bunch of stuff. Lucca and I should definitely be able to be there. I will be talking to my Dr. today so if that changes will let you know this weekend. Should I throw everything in my own cooler with ice or is one of the others for drinks?

One more thing. No glass bottles at the park? I bought some juice squeezes too, then thought about the no glass thing.

LMS
06-02-2006, 09:57 PM
I'm not sure about a no glass rule. I'd think as long as we're really careful not to break any, we should be okay?

I'll bring brendans own juice b/c he only drinks a certain kind. And I'm all about Pepsi & Water so you've got us covered!

daisydoc
06-03-2006, 08:51 AM
Ya... no glass bottles at the park. That is one of the posted rules... so I don't know what you want to do about that. It's not like the city will have someone out making sure the rules are followed. Maybe just make sure everyone pours them into a cup and tossed the glass in the garbage right away so no one is walking around with glass.

And I don't know about everyone else but Sevannah is only allowed to have a certain amount of juice each day so if she doesn't drink her juice this morning I will just bring her own juice!

See y'all in a few hours or so! :)

LMS
