Sorry I have a hard time believing this study as there was no way to know wether these women were going to miscarry regardless of what they consumed...there is no way of knowing why they miscarried...so there is no way of knowing is caffeine had anything to do with the reason behind them miscarrying...or anything else the women did for that matter....

I saw an interview this morning, and although there are lots of reasons that women miscarry, I think the point they are trying to make is that in the study the rate was 50% higher for women that drank 200mg or more of caffeine daily as opposed to the women who did not drink any caffeine. The caffeine does go thru the placenta and they have found that the fetus can't really metabolize it the way our bodies can.

The docs always just say everything in moderation. Well, what's moderation for someone who's used to drinking 5 cups of coffee a day? I'm not saying that I completely agree with it, but I stopped drinking my daily Pepsi's when I got pregnant and I never really went back to drinking them except for once in a blue moon. We watch what fish we eat, what cheese we eat, what cleaners we use, etc. when we're pregnant, why not watch the caffeine if there is even a chance that it could disrupt the pregnancy?

I rarely drink caffeine mostly because I am nursing and pregnant...Skye would never sleep if I drank it...but I agree in moderation...

Yeah, I have never been a coffee drinker and I lost the taste for soda when I stopped drinking it so it's rarely in the house anymore unless Will wants it.

Before getting pg I would drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day. When I got pg I went down to one cup of tea on work days (40mg of caffeine). Yesterday, after reading this article, I had decaf and man is that not going to work for me! I was in bed at 8:30pm and dragging all day. Not sure if its a mental thing or not but waking up at 4:45am on work days I need something. I figure I am almost in my 3rd trimester (will be at 27 weeks) and I have been doing it this long. And like you all said, in moderation. 40mg compared to the 200mg they are talking about is minimal IMO.
