Katie 02-12-2008, 08:06 PM About time!!!!!!!!!!!!!! meeg124 02-12-2008, 08:24 PM I don't want to start a debate but in autism "circles" Jenny McCarthy and the organization Generation Rescue do not have a lot of respect. Jenny McCarthy says that her son is "cured" of autism. However, she will admit that he still has issues with abstract thought, won't make eye contact, flaps his hands and displays many other autistic traits. No one knows what causes autism for sure and IMHO, it's irresponsible for an organization to make a statement that mercury poisioning causes autism. Caden has had the majority of his of vaccines on schedule but hasn't had one vaccine with mercury or thimerosol in it. Just my opinion though... CMT 02-12-2008, 08:30 PM I recently read a study that said they have found some sort of chromosomal "abnormality" that is found in all children (within that study) that had autism. I guess the belief is that some kids, while born w/o any signs of autism, are more susceptable to the chemicals in the vaccines altering the chromosome... sort of like how some people can be without diabetes their whole life and for no apparent reason, something "triggers" it and it never goes away. (or like how I went my whole life without asthma, but now use a rescue inhaler 5+ times a day, when there have been no environmental changes to have caused it). I'm suprised you feel that way about Jenny McCarthy and GR. I'm not really in any "autism circles", but I have several friends here with kids who have autism and they all follow JM and GR very closely, so I assumed they were pretty well held in those groups? Again.. ya learn somethin new everyday! :) meeg124 02-12-2008, 08:46 PM Like you said Jackie, there is just a hypothosis that the chromosonal abnormality can make kids more sensitive to environmental factors, vaccine preservatives, etc. But I have not heard that there has not been a study completed proving that this is the case. I just have a problem with any organization saying "this is what causes autism" when nothing has been proven yet. My problem with Jenny McCarthy is that she says her son is cured and how she is defining cured and also how she cured her son. I feel like she is giving people false hope that their children can be cured with chelating and a GFCF diet. She also some weird theory about her son having an abnormal amout of yeast in his system and this causes autism symptoms. Thursday night on Larry King Live, Jenny McCarthy and I think Holly Robinson Peet are going to be on and will talk about their children that are on the spectrum. CMT 02-12-2008, 09:18 PM yeah. I saw them on Oprah too. That was a pretty good interview. Lynette 02-12-2008, 09:55 PM So now you have me curious Jackie, are you not vaxing Lily? CMT 02-13-2008, 05:46 AM no, lily is being vaxxed, although i'll probably be a little more selective about what we give her. |
