View Full Version : Ever been spinning? LMS 06-28-2006, 10:36 PM I want to start a spinning class so bad. Is anyone part of one? where do you go? where have you gone? anyone wanna join with me?! daisydoc 06-29-2006, 09:18 AM never been... have no idea where to go. i know a lot of gyms have them but you of course have to be a member. if you find a place that does them and you don't have to be a member let me know. i would like to check it out with you! :) LMS 06-29-2006, 10:31 AM i looked at heatherclubdirectory.com and these are the only ones listed... anyone know if these are membership clubs? or even worth checking out? 1 Body Central for Women (http://www.healthclubdirectory.com/health_clubs/completeListing/CA/California/Santa%20Rosa/11588)545 Ross St. Santa Rosa, CA 2 Golds Gym (http://www.healthclubdirectory.com/health_clubs/completeListing/CA/California/Santa%20Rosa/9495)515 Fifth St Santa Rosa, CA jellybeanmichelle 06-29-2006, 12:44 PM www.uofs.com University of Sports has a spin class. You have to be a member. Gold's gym I believe is membership also. I'm a member of University of Sports, if you want to check it out. I like the daycare they provide too. LMS 06-29-2006, 02:39 PM michelle: how much do you pay? Is it totally worth it? I'm ready to ditch my Curves membership for something more inclusive (yoga, spinning, etc) daisydoc 06-29-2006, 03:46 PM Gold's Gym is membership only and it use to be a total "meat market" gym. Don't know if it still is but that kind of thing typically stays with a gym, kwim? I've thought about joinging a Gym but daycare has always been an issue. I use to belong to 24 hr fitness b/c it's close to where we live but I don't trust their daycare and cars have been broken into in the parking lot and it's not family oriented. I wish I could go back to my yoga classes but arranging childcare is always an issue. Even early morning classes don't work for me b/c James is out of the house by 630am! And he doesn't get home until 630pm most days (sometimes later) so I would have to ask my mom nad I get tired of asking my mom just b/c she's the one who always ends up watching my kids... I don't want to "over-use" that, ya know??? So Michelle: I would love to know more about Univ of Sports from your perspective. LMS 06-29-2006, 05:31 PM anna, i'm in the same boat as you. i'd love to work out in the morning (It always sets my day off the right way when i do) but jr has to be AT work at 6 and the store doesn't close until 6 so he's not normally home till around 7, sometimes a tiny bit later. We could both join UofS and do spinning with Michelle!! :) daisydoc 06-29-2006, 07:33 PM I know! :) Plus it makes it easier to go workout if you have someone who's counting on you to make them go! ;) Now we just need more info from Michelle to see if we can make it work. $ is super tight so we'll see. LMS 06-29-2006, 07:48 PM $ tight here too. Hopefully it's not too expensive. We could get a family membership and pretend we are sisters. LOL daisydoc 06-29-2006, 09:43 PM funny! I don't think they would believe us! LOL But anything's worth a try once, right! ;) daisydoc 06-30-2006, 06:12 PM Michelle: which membership do you have and how much is it? (if you don't mind sharing). Trying to figure out if we can afford the extra expense. jellybeanmichelle 06-30-2006, 06:55 PM :liftweigh We pay $79 a month for the two of us. Daycare is $2 an hour, 2 hours max. They have a class called Power Hour that I've wanted to try. They say it's good for those with post-partum bodies. They have lots of lockers in the women's room with toilets and showers. I'm not sure if they have a co-ed sauna. It's two floors, they are expanding. They have a huge soccer field, weight training area, bikes, treadmills, ski machine like things, step machines, basket ball courts, a spa that is seperate, and lots of classes to choose from. They have a "Mother's of terrific tot's" class that is free day care on the 2nd and 4th fridays, cost is $49 a year for members. I have not joined yet. Would like to check it out though. Daycare--same rules apply as real daycare--1 adult to 4 kids, 1 adult to 2 babies. They ask where you will be in the gym, and also ask you how long before they come and get you if child is crying. Also, they do not feed the kids, and say no food in the room. They will change a diaper if you give them permission. There is also a camera, so the front desk can watch what is happening, or you can watch before you pick up your child. I can go with you if you want to check it out, as a guest pass. They do give tours. Anymore questions, just ask me. :liftweigh jellybeanmichelle 06-30-2006, 06:56 PM They are open long hours, but daycare is during certain hours only. Mom of 2 06-30-2006, 08:33 PM never been to a spinning class. It sounds neat, but I don't have a babysitter for my two kids and hubby works long crazy hours. I also need to lose about 20 pounds from having my second child.. Maybe the walking will help... the spinning class sounds neat though... Good Luck daisydoc 06-30-2006, 09:52 PM Wow! okay... that's not bad at all. I'll have to talk with my hubby and see what he thinks and if he would even want to join. If not then I can just look into it for me. Thanks for the info Michelle! I'll let you know when I can try to go with you sometime.... or hook up to get a guest pass. ;) jellybeanmichelle 07-01-2006, 07:39 PM Your welcome Anna! Lindsay 07-03-2006, 06:28 PM How old do your kids have to be for the day care? Sometimes they will only accept toddlers and up, ect. Also where is this club? I was going to just join 24 hour fitness (though I don't think they have spinning classes, but that might be ok with me since I have a bad knee)...but the prices on this gym seem cheaper. LMS 07-03-2006, 09:31 PM lindsay: I have a bad knee too so if we both join we can be the slow ones in class. LOL Lindsay 07-03-2006, 10:25 PM OK Jackie ;) I will have to look into it. I am getting ansy about this baby weight this time. I don't know why...last time it didn't bother me but this time it feels like I am not losing weight at all. I don't even know how that is POSSIBLE given that I seriously nurse 02398409328403928402984023 times a day. Isn't that like burning 700+ calories or something? Of course...I could probably ingest all those calories in one meal, b/c I am a piggy. Haha. jellybeanmichelle 07-03-2006, 10:57 PM I think the child has to be 3 months or older. The club is in Rohnert Park by the movie theater, across from Target's garden center. Lindsay 07-03-2006, 10:59 PM oh! groovy. then I'm in!!! Erica just hit 3 mos. I thought I was going to have to wait until she was a toddler. Well, we will have to set up a time to meet up for this. jellybeanmichelle 07-03-2006, 11:07 PM I agree! Yeah, I'm BF and haven't lost anything! Thank goodness I've lost all my baby weight, but I need to loose more! Lindsay 07-03-2006, 11:12 PM I am like, 10 lbs off of losing my baby weight, so I guess that isn't bad, but I was overweight beforehand. And I only gained 20 lbs total? Someone plz explain to me how you can only gain 20 lbs, have an 8 lb, 10 oz baby but yet only lose 10 lbs total? Is that some kind of tarted math or what? daisydoc 07-04-2006, 09:59 AM Lindsay: you forgot to add back in the weight of our boobs while breastfeeding! :D LOL Did you know the avaerage DD breast weighs about 8lbs?!?!?! And that's for a non-nursing person! After Sevannah, my body clung to the weight I had gained during her pregnacy. I don't think I fit back into my normal "fat day" clothes until she was about 2 months old!! And then it wasn't until she was 5-6 months old that I could get back into the regular wardrobe! This time, it's been totally different. I was back into my "fat day" pants when Jazper was only a week old and my regular clothes when he was 3 wks. But there's still things that I can't fit into b/c things just don't "hang out" where they use to! KWIM? Lindsay 07-04-2006, 10:02 AM haha, yes I know exactly what you mean! I could fit into my "fat" jeans (tightly) and can wear them now...and when I got back to my pre baby size after having my first baby, those same jeans did fit but like, they fit oddly. My fat is all rearranged. I'm lumpy o.O That did not occour to me about teh boobs! Of course, I had a pretty big rack before I got pregnant with this one...well, then again, I was breastfeeding her sister still (nursed through my entire pregnancy, she weaned herself in the last month). justamom 07-11-2006, 02:20 PM University of Sports offers a 21 day FREE trial membership including daycare is what one of their employees told me. The FREE trial is for you your friends and family. They did not put a body limit on it. I am going to go soon, just been procrastinating. If anyone needs childcare let me know! I am just on the other side of the highway from University of Sports. justamom 07-13-2006, 12:28 AM By the way what is a spinning class? Lynette 07-13-2006, 01:05 AM Where you get on a stationary bike and peddle like you are trying to win the Tour de France to music while a crazy lady in front yells at you <g> jellybeanmichelle 07-13-2006, 09:16 AM I like that explanation. Made me laugh! justamom 07-14-2006, 02:16 PM LOL! becky 07-14-2006, 05:18 PM Has anyone looked into the YMCA? We are thinking of signing up for a family membership there since we had on in LA and it had all the great classes, trainers, swimming classes for every age group and child care. Even being pregos, I want to try to get into something if the doctor lets me. Lindsay 07-14-2006, 05:31 PM Funny you should mention it, because I was planning to do just that! I heard they have free memberships for low income families (not sure if I would qualify, but I probably would)and will watch babies 4 weeks and older. They feed, change diapers too! becky 07-14-2006, 05:53 PM Maybe that is something we can end up doing together. :) |
