I saw this on the news last night and thought it was insteresting...even if I'm not Catholic... Here are a couple of articles with slightly different information on it...

Looks like polluting, genetic engineering, being obscenely rich, drug dealing, abortion, pedophilia and causing social injustice have now been added to the sins that cause eternal damnation...

my brother in law was reading these to me last night when he was setting my internet back up. although when he recad it to me he said birth control in general. i'm glad that's not the case, because i think for a lot of people it should be a sin to have children. don't you hate when you see those people out there who just should not be allowed to call themselves a parent? (like people who beat their children, or have o idea what to do with their child?)

I don't think birthcontrol in general is a "deadly sin" , but I know that birthcontrol in general is frowned upon and discrouaged.

"According to the Catholic Church, “immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into Hell.” '

So then what happened to all the people who commited these *new* sins and died last week before these were announced? :rolleyes

Why do men/women get to determine these things. Isn't that up to God???

I think they feel that they are taking the examples from the bible and expressing them in modern language? maybe?

Vatican updates seven deadly sins for modern world

"The new deadly sins that may lead to eternal damnation are polluting, genetic engineering, being obscenely rich, drug dealing, abortion, pedophilia and causing social injustice, The Times newspaper has reported."

I am particularly happy to see "causing social injustice" added to the list. I think it's a social injustice that same sex couples are not able to marry. When we have the means (as a country) to provide health care to children and the elderly yet withhold funds for wars, I believe, it is a social injustice. For once, the Catholic church and I are on the same page...;) But, I have a feeling they don't agree with me! :lol

Don't mean to offend. But I think for this reason, I'll agree with "justamom" and leave it up to G_d.

biiiig :yeah to Valerie.

This just seems silly to me. Sorry if that offends anyone, but it's jmo.
I personally love the "obscenely rich". To me that's just another example of how this world has a twisted form of jealousy.
Everyone who is obscenely rich MUST have gotten there in a wrongful way, right? Lord knows none of them actually WORKED for that money. And I COMPLETELY agree with people going to hell b/c they happen to be successful. *note strong sarcasm*

I don't believe it is jealousy......if you read the second article it states
"Also on the list are drug abuse, and huge inequality of wealth with the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer. Some hedge fund billionaires better start brushing up on their Dante."

I think it is a matter of gluttony.
