Week of July 3rd
Hoodwinked (PG)
Rated for some mild action and thematic elements
Glenn Close, Anne Hathaway - 83 min.

This updated re-telling of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood" begins where the fable last left off. (There's always more to every tale than meets the eye!) Furry and feathered cops from the animal world, Chief Grizzly and Detective Bill Stork, investigate the report of a domestic disturbance at Granny's cottage. The incident allegedly involved a girl, a wolf and an axe. The charges are many: breaking and entering, disturbing the peace, intent to eat and wielding an axe without a license. Furthermore, this case may well be tied to the elusive "Goody Bandit" who has been stealing the recipes of goody shops throughout the land.

Sonya was once a great horse whose promising career on the racetrack was cut short, suddenly, by a broken leg. Considered as good as dead to her owner -- who also happens to be Ben's boss -- the owner gives Sonya to Ben as severance pay, along with his walking papers. Now, it will take the unwavering faith and determination of Ben's young daughter, Cale, to bring these two damaged souls together in a quest for a seemingly impossible goal: to win the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Helena Bonham Carter, Peter Sallis - 94 min.

It's 'vege-mania' in Wallace and Gromit's neighborhood, and the two are cashing in with their human pest-control outfit, "Anti-Pesto." With only days to go before the annual Giant Vegetable Competition, business is booming. Suddenly, a huge, mysterious, veg-ravaging "beast" begins attacking the town's sacred vegetable plots at night, and the competition hostess, Lady Tottington, commissions Anti-Pesto to catch it. Lying in wait, however, is Lady Tottington's snobby suitor, Victor Quartermaine, who'd rather shoot the beast and secure the position of local hero -- not to mention Lady Tottington's hand in marriage. But, Victor also has a hidden agenda that could have dire consequences for Lady Tottington and our two heroes.

So our heroes embark on a mission across an ever-changing, increasingly dangerous landscape toward their salvation. They are joined by Ellie, the only female mammoth left in the world, who somehow thinks she's a possum! hey Lorrie, It shows I edited your post, but i didn't change anything except to make it "sticky"... since it has so much information for over the next few weeks, I wanted to be sure it stayed at the top of the forum.
Thanks for all the info.

Thanks for the movie info.

I love it here in Sonoma County, but one thing I do miss is when the kids and I lived in Kern County we lived out in the country. It was over 55 miles into Bakersfield to get groceries the Tuesday after every payday. So we made a day of it and went to the movies. On Tuesdays it was on ly $.50 each. Then we headed on over to Baskin Robbins for $1 ice cream scoops. I think we watched Shrek 2 three weeks in a row.

Is this an annual thing? I haven't taken Anna to a movie yet but this sounds like fun. I think I'm going to take her to see Wall-E when it comes out.

Gary - Will she sit through a movie? I just can't see Taylor doing that? You're lucky if she will!

Kim - it really depends. The only time she's ever watched an entire movie in one sitting is in the car. I picked up a portable dvd player of her birthday and she watches that. At home she's watched for longer than an hour and a half but not just being seated. Not at all. She'll watch a little and then play a little and so on. I think being in a theater for the first time would be too exciting for her to just sit as well... so I dunno.

I figure it's worth a try. I'm going to go with the expectation that we'll only be there for maybe 20 minutes and if it works out, great, if not, we'll still have fun. I plan to get her one of those kids meals... maybe eating will keep her occupied for longer... hehe.
