So, I have this sewing machine. My mother gave it to me for my 23rd birthday (I'm well past 24 now...) and um, it's still never been used. It's a nice one too, a Singer Scholastic. I've considered selling it a few times becuase it seems a shame to never use the thing, but honestly, I can't figure it out. I looked at the manual to learn how to thread the bobbin and was like WTF? I am craft-challenged. La de dah.

So does anyone want to maybe meet up and show me how to thread this thing? That's really all I need to learn for now, I can probably figure out the rest alone (but if you want to teach me feel free!)

Also, if that's not possible, anyone know where a sewing class might be? Does the JC have them? If they do, how much $$ are they (keep in mind I am po').

hmm, i'd have to look at your machine, but there should be a bobbin winder somewhere. I know mine is under the lid of the top part of the machine. Then you pop the bobbin on one peg, the thread spool on another and hit the pedal and it'll auto thread it for you. This machine is O-L-D (my moms from when she was YOUNG... one of the first computerized machines ever made, LOL) and my mom just gave it to me b/c she hates sewing and I love it, so I dunno if that's the norm or not.

Or I think places like Beverly's and JoAnn's have sewing classes. I'd call one of them and see what they say unless you can find someone here that can help you. Me personally no desire to sew. For now(till she leaves end of the month)my mom does any sewing we need done(mostly cub scout and girl scout patches).

threading the bobbin shouldn't be to hard. I have a VERY old Singer but i think the basic concept is the same for them all.

I'm going to have to have someone show me. My MIL tried and I just went "huh". She went too fast for me. I am more of a hands on learner, and I don't learn well by just watching.

I want to sew my own baby slings! That would just be awesome.

I've sewn a few things. So, I believe I know how to thread a bobbin.
My mother is an excellent seamstress!
She made all of my baby clothes, ballet costumes, and now she wants to start making Victoria some clothes.

I really want to be that good at sewing, but I'm kind of impatient? I'm not very crafty :bag

I have this brilliant idea to make wrap carriers and sell them. Hmmm.

I can't sew clothes for crap, but when I was pregnant I did Brendan's entire crib set in 3 days while working full time. Funny what you can do when you put your mind to it
(This is just the quilt)

Hey Lindsay,

Do you mean filling the bobbin with thread or just threading it through the Bobbin Case?

Bring your Bobbin to our Mom's Club recipe thingy tommorrow and I will show you how to thread it. If you need to know how to put thread onto the bobbin bring your machine tommorrow too!

I thought i was the only one up at this ungodly hour.

KK, will bring machine. I have no idea how to get thread into the thing. Um, so I think that means I have to bring the machine. I think there is thread in it 'cause my MIL was trying to teach me but failed. So we can take that out and rethread it! FUN.

Hey Lindsey,

did not see your post until after the get together. Sorry. Bring your machine to one of our MOMS Club functions at Lisa's, when you are ready, and let me know and I will show you!
