I also posted in products and services, because I'm looking for a tile source, but, I think it would be good to post here as well. I'm trying to learn how to do mosaic. Does anyone have any tips, or experiences, or broken or cheap tile sources?
I think I would like to make bird baths and fountains....

I've never done tile mosaics, but I *HAVE* done stained glass mosaics. What are you hoping to make? Tables? Stepping Stones?

I'm thinking about birdbaths and fountains for outdoors. I would also like to do a table top.
What have you done with the glass?

i've done cement stepping stones. I bought a small table to do a mosaic top on, but never got a chance.

I love mosaic! I wonder if the tile stores on SR Ave by Todd Rd would sell you broken tiles for cheap? Or the big stores like Lowe's? Might have to buy whole ones if you want a lot of color because I would think bright red tile might not be in big demand so less likely to have broken ones :)

Hmmm....I should think about doing some now that I think about it....

I checked with the tile stores, none of them will sell broken tile because of liability-LAME! They all said I could dumpster dive after closing, however, it is illegal, and I could get arrested... I still went and took a look after closing, and there was nothing but trash.
My guess is that close-out sales and craigslist may be my only hope!

I'd post on freecycle saying that anyone who is renovating and has any broken tiles they want to get rid of, you are looking for them! :)
